The Peay is dead last in the ASUN.  Jacksonville State also with a sub .500 record.  Interesting to see SEMO atop the OVC at the moment considering they just had a 2 win season a few seasons ago.

We had to make a move. I agree. But, I'm gonna miss 20 + game winning streaks we had 3 times in recent years. Some of our OVC championship teams that went on to win NCAA tourney games may have finished 2nd or 3rd in the MVC. I definitely don't want to be in the OVC the way it is now. But, I did enjoy the success we had. Instead of 1, sometimes 2 teams we had to beat to win the conf, now we have several teams we have to beat. And, I may be the only person on this board who feels this way, but, I do not see this as a 2 bid league year in and year out. We may have really good teams the next 5 years and come out of it with nothing more than a couple of NIT bids. I'm proud of our team. We have some good wins and some room for growth this year and in the future. But, I don't see this conf getting any weaker in the future. And, like I said, with teams like Wichita State, Creighton and Loyola Chicago moving on, I just see this as an occasional 2 bid league. Even if I'm wrong, it will be tough as nails to finish ahead of 5 or 6 good teams to get an at large NCAA tourney bid. Not to mention beating out every team to get an automatic bid. We will certainly be competitive. I'm just gonna miss being dominant.

We can be dominant in this league too with the right team.   A couple of our teams over the last few years would have been 1-2 in the Valley.

You have to think that recruiting to the MVC will be easier as well.

I agree with a lot of what Popeye said. However, I think the glass half full version is that winning this conference gives us a better chance to raise our bar and our brand.  We have still not cracked that Sweet 16 glass ceiling.  Winning this conference prepares us better for that. Iron sharpens iron (or something like that).

A future Final 4 appearance by the Racers is possible in the MVC.  Just imagine that!

No reason to think that with Wichita State, Loyola, and Creighton moving up, they won't be replaced by teams that grow to be as good as they became. I see this as a growing step for programs like the Racers and Bruins, and in the near future, we grow into programs that can recruit and be just as successful as those 3, and make this league a multi-bid conference. I know I poo-poo about some of our missteps so far, being so used to 20+ win seasons and finishing at the top perennially, but I do have faith that this program will grow with the new challenge, as will the Bruins (I don't see any change to their fan base, lol). With increased live TV exposure and, hopefully, the opportunity for better opponents in the non-conference schedule, I'm hoping we attract better and better players and staff, and our opportunities for post-season play open up.

At the half way point we are competitive in this new tougher conference after replacing almost everybody.  Does that mean we would have been number 1 in the ovc right now cruising to the ncaa tournament without the upgrade?

It makes it way harder to compare how good this team is compared to other Racer teams.

Not a bad start to the mvc play.  It should only go up from here.
