Priority Points

Probably most of you got the email from the athletic department this week about priority points.  The athletic department is trying to be more transparent about how they assign seating for post session tournaments.  Probably won't be much of an issue this season if we play like we did the last two games.  But really interesting how points are assigned.   Buying season tickets to MBB or FB is one priority point but buying season tickets to WBB is 5 priority points.  Seems odd, especially since until this season if you bought a season ticket to MBB, then WBB tickets were included. Here's the link https://goracers.com/sports/2023/1/3/racer-priority-points.aspx?spMailingID=9078071&spUserID=MjUyOTE0NTc1NDE0S0&spJobID=1660218017&spReportId=MTY2MDIxODAxNwS2&spMailingID=9081451&spUserID=NjMzNDg3NTg1MDY1S0&spJobID=1660240011&spReportId=MTY2MDI0MDAxMQS2

Not that odd, they need people to attend Women's basketball games. Now that most of the games aren't double headers it means opening the CFSB center twice as many times, and staffing it twice as many times, and paying the operating cost twice as many times.

If they can't get butts in the seats for the women's games they cost the program too much.

I've been thinking about going to some women's games. They play extremely hard and are well coached. I need something to "clean my pallette" so to speak after watching the men.

It worked for me ;D. They are fun to watch. Another thing that brightens my day is when LSU loses to Texas A&M.

My issue with this being "odd" is that the information that purchasing season tickets to the women's games was worth 5 times the "priority points" than purchasing season tickets for men's games wasn't available until recently.  If it were, there would have been more incentive to buy them this season.  I enjoy watching the women's games but usually watch them on ESPN+.  Now that I know how priority points are assigned, I will get WBB season tickets.
I am also worried that it violates the spirit, if not the requirements, of Title IX.  Men's and women's sports are supposed to be treated equally, and this isn't exactly equal.

I don't think I'm totally understanding the situation. Why are the women's games not being played on the same night as the men's? From a logistics standpoint, that would make sense, right?

Another observation: Why is the MVC women's tourney not in St. Louis? I think I saw the Quad Cities, right?
Murray State time to make history in a new conference! #Valley!

Right. Beautiful Moline, IL ::). I wish the MVC tournament was setup similar to the OVC tournament in Evansville where the women would play during the day and men at night ....AT THE SAME VENUE.

RacerHistory

Yeah, I wish the MVC was more low-rent like the OVC.

I like playing the same game as the ' big boys ' and the P5 don't play double headers.

Low majors do double headers. I love the stand alone way the games are played now, with it being all about one or the other. I really have never been one for trading out and taking turns when I'm paying for it.

Never really considered the fact that having men and women playing a tournament at the same venue was a low major thing. I guess I am just being selfish wanting a 25 minute drive down the road to see the women play in a tournament.

wkeown

Selfishly, as a TV viewer from Georgia, this is much better than having to wait 30 minutes later than the expected start time due to WBB overtime or foul-plagued game.  From an expense standpoint, I can certainly see the disadvantage.

It really is though, just like everybody not making your conference tournament. We all got used to the budget friendly first way low major conferences operate and it's definitely a culture change.

From a money standpoint it theoretically should increase money as long as you can get enough people to the women's game to get past the break even point. If our women keep playing the way they have been playing so far this season, I think they'll get there.
