One heckuva defensive effort so far first half and as active as I've seen Coach all season long.

Yeah we looked to be playing as a team and having fun out there. It was great to see.

I wish we'd put our subs in more than just once a half though. Sam and them all played pretty good, i would've liked to see them sub in more towards the end of the half since our guys looked a little winded.

Was that us, taking it to the hole???????? And, it worked???????

Very nice effort and movement, offensively, so far, although there were still a few 3's hoisted very early in the shot clock. Would LOVE to see more of Murray in H2.

Nice defensive work so far, and they seem to be on the same page in their defensive action and working together. Against a team that beat the "Fundamentals vs. Athleticism" guys by 12, after those guys "fundamentaled" us around.

I really think most of our problems are point guard play.   Wood just doesn't see passing lanes well, especially for transition baskets.   We look great in transition but when he misses an opportunity it hurts.    Glad with the effort this game would love to see stacker and edwards get a min or 2.

Funny you say that. I agree with you, but heard the announcers complimenting Wood as a good passer who sees the floor well.

Well that was a pleasant surprise for the New Year.  Really impressed with the balanced scoring and defensive intensity.  Maybe we can see this team again?

I heard that too.
I believe the announcers were Evansville guys.
I thought the MVC allowed only announcers they approved. Not the local guys. At least that was the explanation given when we found out Neil and Kenny would not be the TV announcers for our home games.
If they are homers, I must admit that they kept the commentary unbiased for the most part. An occasional 'we' crept in a couple of times.

Impressed with the effort on both ends of the floor. I thought Smith looked better offensively than he has in a while. Nice to see the fast break and penetration looking more like it did earlier in the year. Get the ball to Anderson. He will find a way to get to the rim.

Having said that, the first half Evansville looked like they had partied too hard the night before. They missed several point blank shots. I think we took a step in the right direction.  But, a good junior college team would have been up at least 10 against Evansville at half. Big game Wednesday.  We are due to have a good game on our home floor. Too bad we didn't play a little better against the Salukis. Our toughest conf games are all in front of us. But, it would be nice to be 2 games up on Drake right now.

I'm biased. But, Neil and Kenny should be 1st team all conf when it comes to calling a game.

Neal is outstanding. Kenny is also good and getting better. Mike Reis and Greg Starrick from SIU are also very good, but I understand Starrick is not doing as many games. I remember seeing Starrick in college. Maybe the best pure shooter I have ever seen (he or Mike Glenn).

Also, I didn't understand the announcers love for Wood. I think this team is suffering from the lack of a true point. But I think Wood is the best we have. Moore is good for defensive steals, but I give Jacobi the edge elsewhere.

One thing I saw in H2 that both puzzled and annoyed me. Spinelli came in off the bench for them, and in H2, especially later in the half, put 12 points on our D. He reminded me way too much of Belmont's smarmy little guard that always was able to worm his way inside and score the layup or floater. They would just back down for Spinelli and let him get close, and then he'd turn one way or another and put up for 2. Maybe they were content by this point in the game, but why do you let a guy continually do that to you????

smidge34

He called Wood "dynamic".

I have to hand it to "Boo" Roth.  Listening to Bidwell's podcast before the game Sunday, two things that he anticipated seeing in the upcoming game against Evansville was Morgan having a bigger role in the offense in this particular game and that one efficiency the Racers could potentially gain is to increase the pace immediately after defensive rebounds so that the Racers could get more transition baskets.  He was absolutely spot on.

The team is still very much a work in progress.  The set screens are still just horrible.  The bright side is that we got a W and our best basketball is still ahead of us.

Like I said. Evansville in the first half looked hung over from a New Years Eve party. But, we looked much more like we did early in the season when we were aggressive taking the ball to the rim. We need that intensity and that mindset for 40 minutes every game. But, our half court offense has to improve if we are going to compete with Bradley, Drake, Indiana St, etc. for a top 3 finish in conf.
