For probably the first time since winning the trophy in the 1990-91 school year, Murray State is unofficially in first place in the OVC Women's All-Sports Trophy standings!

With second-place finishes in basketball, rifle, golf and tennis (regular-season) and a third-place finish in volleyball, MSU has 58.5 points, followed by Samford at 57, Jacksonville State at 50.5, Eastern Illinois at 49.5, Eastern Kentucky at 49, SEMO at 46.5, Morehead at 43, Tech at 34, Peay at 33.5, Martin at 30.5 and TSU at 27.5.

Teams get 11 points for a first-place finish (regardless of how many schools sponsor the sport), 10 for a second-place finish, etc. Teams that tie split those points evenly. The women have only two sports remaining: outdoor track and softball. (All points and standings are unofficial.)

I assume the inexplicable lack of softball will knock Murray from the top in the end, but it's still a nice accomplishment by the athletics administration. It wasn't too long ago that women's athletics were an afterthought at MSU, despite a Title IX review. It's nice to see that disgrace is a thing of the past.
