Men's Basketball / Agents
January 14, 2021, 06:00:30 PM
I just watched an ESPN movie on agents.  Really eye opening.  Since we have a lull before the scheduled game Saturday, does anyone know any stories about agents invading MSU?  We've had three high draft picks recently, so the competition among agents must have been fierce.  Am unfamiliar with the agent world, so wondering if anyone has any information or stories about it.

Am watching the second quarter of the Grizzlies Nets game.  Ja went down with a nasty ankle injury and left the court in a wheelchair.  Does not look good.

Men's Basketball / Questions for the Coach’s Show
December 06, 2020, 06:46:36 PM
Just a reminder that the Coach's Show is still ongoing on Monday nights.  You can join in with Zoom or listen on Froggy.  You can also email questions to heycoachshow@gmail.com
I'm posting this since I think I had the only email question last week.  We need to get more of these Racer Nation posters involved!

Men's Basketball / Seats this Season
October 13, 2020, 05:37:16 PM
We season ticket holders got a letter today about whether we will actually get seats.  I really don't envy the people in the ticket office having to deal this issue.  But since they only plan to allow 10-12% capacity for the CFSB Center, somebody is not going to be happy.  Not me though.  As long we actually have Racer Basketball and I can watch it on ESPN+, I'll be happy.

Football / LV McGinty
September 12, 2020, 04:13:26 PM
There was an obituary this week for LV McGinty.  Do any of you remember the game he was officiating where he collapsed on the field?  If I remember correctly, our training staff saved his life.  He was a good man.  RIP

Members of our Campus Community:

Under my Delegation of Authority as granted to me by the Board of Regents, and in consultation with Board Chair Dan Kemp, following are items to provide you with new information regarding additional steps that our University is taking to mitigate the spread of the Coronavirus, COVID-19.  This is an unprecedented international public health issue which is changing daily.

These decisions, which are very difficult to make for our University, are done with great thought and consideration with review of state and national directives, as well as guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Governor Andy Beshear and other agencies and health professionals.

The health, safety and well-being of our faculty, staff, students and the broader community are of utmost importance and we are taking aggressive action, as recommended, to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Online/Alternative Instruction

Online/alternative instruction, effective Monday, March 23, 2020, will continue through the end of the Spring Semester.  Our faculty will guide this process (previously, we announced an end of online/alternative instruction on Sunday, April 5, 2020).

Regarding online/alternative technical assistance, please contact the Service Desk at msu.servicedesk@murraystate.edu or by calling (270) 809-2346 or by submitting your request at https://murraystate.teamdynamix.com/.  It is important to stay in touch with your faculty members regarding your classes and delivery methods.

Residence Halls

Effective Sunday, March 22, 2020, at 2 p.m. (CT), our residence halls will not be reopening following the Spring Break and will remain closed for the remainder of the semester.  Students need to begin making preparations now to move out of their residence halls.  Move out instructions and schedules will be distributed via email no later than 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, from the Housing Office.  All personal items will be expected to be out of the residence halls by Friday, March 27, 2020, at 8 p.m. (CT).

Importantly, we understand that some students cannot leave campus at this time and must continue to reside in the residence halls.  However, we are able to make very few exceptions in this area.  Students who cannot leave campus will receive instructions from the Housing Office by Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at 4 p.m.  Due to this public health crisis, we will not enforce all provisions of our housing contract and more information will be forthcoming regarding pro-rata refunds for housing and dining, subject to all financial aid guidelines, to be applied to existing or future outstanding balances.  Additional information will be provided in the next few days regarding this information.
Campus and Student Events

Based on previous notifications and consistent with state and federal guidance, all campus and student events and activities are postponed or cancelled through Friday, May 15, 2020.

Commencement

Our Saturday, May 9, 2020, Commencement ceremony is postponed as we review other options and a future date for this event.

Campus Operations – Working Remotely

Limited campus services, including dining, will remain operational.  All campus buildings, including those on the regional campuses, will be closed to the general public.  Please see our website at https://www.murraystate.edu/healthupdate/ for additional information and continue to monitor the site for regular updates.

We are encouraging as many faculty and staff as possible to work remotely, while continuing our commitment to remain open and operational.  We will maintain basic operations in every area of the University.  Each Vice President, Director, other administrators and my office, have been reviewing remote-work options since last week.  If you have questions, please direct them to Human Resources at (270) 809-2146.

Finally, we are responding to an unprecedented international health issue.  Please bear with us and be patient as we make these decisions.  Again, many thanks to everyone for their hard work, responsiveness, patience, support and guidance as we make these changes in this extraordinary environment.

Sincerely,

Men's Basketball / Racers versus the CFP Semifinal
December 26, 2019, 07:06:29 AM
I am really torn about Saturday night.  I rarely miss a home Racer game for any reason, but this weekend I'm tempted.  After attending a great game last weekend in Evansville, I'm pretty lukewarm about watching the Racers play an NAIA team, even one with a winning record, when the CFP semifinals are on.  The Clemson-Ohio State game is scheduled as the same time as the Racer game, and as much as a Racer fans as I am, I'd prefer to watch that football game than a basketball game against Cumberland that is bound to start at least 30 minutes after its scheduled start, and will likely be about as close of a contest as the last home game.  Anyone else having this issue?  My wife says she's going to watch the Racers play and could are less about Clemson or Ohio State.

Men's Basketball / Question from the Coaches Show
March 06, 2018, 04:45:45 PM
At the Coaches Show last night, Coach said that to his knowledge Stark is the first player in the OVC to be named preseason Player of the Year,  Player of the Year AND OVC Tournament MVP.  He wasn't sure though.  Is this correct?

Men's Basketball / A Good Weekend
February 11, 2018, 05:15:04 PM
This has been a good weekend for the Racer Nation family.  The Racers won on the road (as the Paducah Sun headline said "Racers edge Cougars), Steve Prohm won a tough home game against a very good Oklahoma team, Billy Kennedy got some payback against a team he should have beaten on the road, and Mick Cronin beat SMU this afternoon.  I hate to see our coaches move on, but delighted when they have success.  This was a good weekend for everybody.

I got my first (in twenty years) parking ticket at MSU last Tuesday for parking in the lot by the women's softball field.  I went to the wellness center for a half-hour at lunch (the same time the softball game was played the day before) and forgot to hang my faculty tag on the mirror.  $60 fine for this minor oversight in an empty lot. I mainly park in that lot for football or basketball games, so I usually use a Lot 6 tag to park there and don't think about the blue tag.
Anyway, after a careful review of the MSU parking regulations, it appears that every time I've parked in that lot for softball and/or baseball games, I am in violation os MSU policy.  I attend quite a lot of softball games and have parked there for 20 years for baseball games, and rarely hang my MSU tag. I have never noticed other spectators getting tickets.  In fact, directions to the baseball and softball fields use GPS to point visitors close to those lots to attend games, and never mention they are restricted lots.
Has this happened to anyone else?  Is this a new enforcement policy?  Just curious. I plan to just pay my fine, seethe, and quickly funnel any fundraising requests from MSU into the nearest trash receptacle.

Men's Basketball / Why Belmont?
March 05, 2017, 07:15:18 PM
Can someone on this board refresh my memory on why the OVC admitted Belmont?  I was thinking the argument at the time was that Belmont could lead the conference in the direction of the MVC and help make the OVC a two bid league.  That clearly will never happen, and not only have we failed to make the NCAA men's basketball tournament since Belmont entered the conference, but they have cost us NCAA slots in women's volleyball and soccer as well.
I am following the other threads critical of the coach, and it seems really unfair that we have no director of basketball operations, no graduate assistants, and yet compete in a conference against a team that has all of those resources.  Obviously, Belmont isn't going to the NCAA but they still will represent the OVC in the NIT.  So again, I am really puzzled a non-football school like Belmont was allowed to be admitted to the OVC in the first place.
Does anyone remember why?  Thanks in advance for refreshing my memory.
