Men's Basketball / Bidwell Website
May 02, 2023, 07:50:38 PM
Just curious about thoughts on subscribing to Bidwell's new website.  Are Racer fans on board?  Is it worth it?

The Myrtle Beach Invitational was fun to attend, but I wonder how much it helped any of the participants.  The winner, UMASS didn't finish with a winning record, and only two teams, A&M and Boise State, made the NCAA tournament and both were bounced in round one.  Even though Texas A&M finished second in the SEC both in the  regular season and tournament, they were seeded behind lesser SEC teams in part because they lost to  teams like us.
My question is what incentive will teams like Texas A&M have in the future for entering tournaments where they might lose to a Murray State.  I am worried that the message the committee sent to A&M this year is going to make it incredibly difficult for MVC teams to improve their NET rankings.

Men's Basketball / A mismatch
March 16, 2023, 06:30:34 PM
What exactly is a mismatch in D1 basketball?  I've heard the term for decades but am really unclear what it means.  I get the extremes.  For example if a 5 footer is guarding a 7 footer in the paint, that's a mismatch.  But coaches talk about mismatches all the time among really talented players, so I get confused.  Anyone have any guidance?  Thanks!

Men's Basketball / Our Next NCAA Appearance
March 04, 2023, 06:31:54 PM
I've been a Denver Broncos fan all of my life.  Since the Super Bowl started in 1970, the Broncos have appeared in 8 Super Bowls and won 3.  Not a bad record for 53 seasons, but who knows when or if they will ever return.
Since I joined the faculty at Murray State in 1996, the Racers have made the NCAA tournament 11 times (out of 18 total) and advanced four times.  Eleven times in 27 years is pretty good.  Prohm made the tournament once in four years, which is pretty good as well.
What are realistic expectations moving forward?  The MVC is currently a very competitive one bid league.  Hopefully it can position itself to once again be a multi-bid league, but it's not there yet.  My guess is that we'll be fortunate to "go dancing" once every four years, like Prohm did, and that will be an achievement to be proud of.  What do others think?

Men's Basketball / Our MVC Rival
January 25, 2023, 06:34:47 PM
One of the things that I was concerned about when joining the MCV is that I wasn't sure who the new rival, the most hated team would be.  The team we travelled to and the team that brought their fans here.  The Austen Peay of the MVC.  Since we played Peay in football it was a true rivalry.  Now we just have to have one in basketball.
Question, is it Belmont or SIU?  I know Racer fans despise them both, but who do we hate more?

Men's Basketball / My Apologies
January 23, 2023, 06:19:09 PM
One of the new members posted a thread today that I disagreed with.  I wrote what I thought was an appropriate response, then saw that the post was deleted.
I don't remember the poster's name, but my sincere apologies for potentially offending you.  It wasn't my intention and I hope you will post more in the future. We are all Racer fans.  Go Racers!!

Men's Basketball / Honorary Coach
January 12, 2023, 04:51:23 PM
I like the new honorary coach initiative.  So far this season it's been Dave Eaton (Academic Dean and avid Racer photographer), Dave Gessler (Murray State Faculty Athletic Representative), Jerry Penner (MCCH CEO) and Marty Futrell (Super Fan).  I really hope 75Fan gets to be an honorary coach.  I can't think of anyone more deserving.
I would also like to suggest adding RacerHistory and Smidge34 to the list, provided that Smidge can behave himself.

Men's Basketball / Priority Points
January 11, 2023, 05:53:54 PM
Probably most of you got the email from the athletic department this week about priority points.  The athletic department is trying to be more transparent about how they assign seating for post session tournaments.  Probably won't be much of an issue this season if we play like we did the last two games.  But really interesting how points are assigned.   Buying season tickets to MBB or FB is one priority point but buying season tickets to WBB is 5 priority points.  Seems odd, especially since until this season if you bought a season ticket to MBB, then WBB tickets were included. Here's the link https://goracers.com/sports/2023/1/3/racer-priority-points.aspx?spMailingID=9078071&spUserID=MjUyOTE0NTc1NDE0S0&spJobID=1660218017&spReportId=MTY2MDIxODAxNwS2&spMailingID=9081451&spUserID=NjMzNDg3NTg1MDY1S0&spJobID=1660240011&spReportId=MTY2MDI0MDAxMQS2

Men's Basketball / CFSB Center Atmosphere
December 30, 2022, 03:34:45 PM
General question about what poster's think about the atmosphere this season in the CFSB center.  My wife and I are quite bored with the time-out entertainment.  The free throw shooting contests are getting old, as are the same repetitive contests.  Disappointed that they brought back the KissCam, especially with a triple threat of flu, RSV and COVID-19.
Probably the most fun I've had in time out entertainment has been singing "Happy Together" at the away Belmont games.  Sure wish the athletic department comes up with something to better engage fans.

Men's Basketball / MVC Tournament. Who’s going?
December 27, 2022, 05:58:44 PM
I'm posting this thread for 2 reasons.  Reason #1 -Practice.  I haven't started a thread on this new platform, but more importantly,
Reason #2 - Who has already committed to go?  We just got our tickets through the MSU office ($310) for an all session pass for both of us, plus $662.44 for a 3 day stay at the team hotel.  We've already committed close to a thousand bucks to go to a tournament I'm still not confident the team will make (sorry to say that).   But gotta hope and gotta believe.  Hopefully the worst case will be we make the tournament, lose early and my wife and I enjoy St. Louis for a couple of days.  Best case, we win it all!

I saw today on FB that Jeff Bidwell and Rob Cross were going to be announcing some of the men's games this season, starting tomorrow night.  Are Neal and Kenny phasing out?

Men's Basketball / Exit 62
March 14, 2022, 07:49:07 AM
The new road to Indianapolis (I-69) is really nice until you get a few miles from the city where it's still under construction.  But like the Western Kentucky Parkway, service areas are few and far between.  Remember Exit 62.  There is a new Huck's open that's about 1/2 mile off I-69.  Your bladder will thank me.

Men's Basketball / Own a Ja Dunk, only $475,000
December 13, 2021, 04:26:41 PM
I was totally unaware of the world of NFTs and how you can now own a digital card much the same way as many of us used to collect baseball cards.  I'm posting the list of the 10 most expensive NBA digital cards.  Ja is #4 and #5 on the list.  Anybody know much about this technology and why it's become so popular?  I am clueless. $475,000???

Men's Basketball / Detail
May 09, 2021, 07:21:03 PM
If you haven't watched it, see the Detail Episode on Ja Morant.  It's on ESPN+.  Really can learn a lot not only about what a talent he is, but also helps understand the game better.

Women's Sports / Soccer loses
April 15, 2021, 08:04:57 PM
Disappointed that the soccer team dominated SEMO today but lost 1-0.  Soccer.  Hope their RPI still gets them an at large bid.
