Well this board has been strangely silent on a current issue near and very dear to all of our hearts.

Just curious about thoughts on subscribing to Bidwell's new website.  Are Racer fans on board?  Is it worth it?

Quote from: 75Fan on April 26, 2023, 09:42:06 PMI'm still looking for the reference to the Murray State shirt but the story on the Morehead State shirts stems from the Eagles' concert at Morehead State on December 4, 1973 when the band stayed an extra day and toured the town and Randy Leadon and Bernie Meisner bought those shirts which they later wore in Don Kirshner's Rock Concert in 1974.

https://randymeisnerretrospective.com/2021/03/01/morehead-state-university-morehead-ky-december-4th-1973/

The Eagles weren't The Eagles when they played for Linda Ronstadt as she picked them to play for her Silk Purse Tour in 1971 due to their "southern rock" style.

Don Henley was a drummer in a group called Shiloh, which Kenny Rogers first discovered in Dallas and brought to Los Angeles.

Glenn Frey worked in a duo called Longbranch Pennywhistle with J.D. Souther.

Bernie Meisner played in Rick Nelson's Stone Canyon Band.

Randy Leadon was with the Flying Burrito Brothers.

Quote from: popeyejonesfan on April 24, 2023, 05:42:50 PMI still say the easiest solution is to give players a percentage of profits on merchandise connected to that specific player. No salaries, no NIL baloney. That would be a little less like a pro league in my opinion. $70,000 for DJ? How many on this board earn that much in a year? God bless DJ. Are you hard working Racer fans ok with being out earned by a college student?
Well graduates of our program typically start at more than 70K and their careers are usually longer than DJs will likely be. There is still a benefit to actually getting a college degree.

Quote from: popeyejonesfan on April 04, 2023, 02:55:03 PMWill this type of Final 4 ever happen again? Like I said in another thread, it seems to me like the new rules will make it more likely than ever for blue bloods to make the Final 4. The NCAA(NOBODY CARES about AMATEUR ATHLETICS) has professionalized amateur sports. It makes me sad to think about it.
I think this kind of final four is going to be the new normal.  We'll see.

Great showing in the Final Four.  Disappointing to lose on a buzzer beater, but no shame to make it to the Final Four.

There were multiple opportunities last season to let those guys get some minutes in games that were already decided.  It didn't happen. Why didn't it happen? Who knows.  Certainly not any posters here.
Whether it would have convinced them to stay or whether they could have been exceptional Racers we'll never know since they chose to leave.  Best of luck to them.
My opinion is that it's good for a coach to play everybody on the team as much as possible.

Quote from: smidge34 on March 28, 2023, 12:44:58 PMWe're gonna lose some of the freshmen if I were a betting man smh. Can't really blame them honestly the way they were left to ride the pine and suffer through some of the biggest shit shows I've ever witnessed out of a Racer team. It had to be maddening. I don't see how we are going to replace all of these players with what little $ we are paying. We need a million $ yearly NIL pool or we are screwed. I mean shoot, DePaul is paying $90K for a new transfer.
I was attempting to search for how much money this university raises annually.  The last number I found was from last September where a record $11 million was donated (https://www.murraystate.edu/news/posts/centennial-fundraising.aspx).  Now with high inflation and the hits the market has taken, the numbers for this year are unlikely to approach that.
It's hard to imagine how we can raise the type of NIL money needed to compete if our fundraising for the entire university is $10 million or less.  Gotta be creative somehow.  Because the reality is this https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/march-madness-2023-nijel-packs-lucrative-nil-deal-pays-dividends-sets-up-for-teams-to-copy-miamis-strategy/

Quote from: ERacerHead on March 20, 2023, 06:28:57 PMMakes me wish we still had last year's coach and most of last year's team.  We could have won the MVC and beaten Miami and Indiana.  But it never had a chance to happen.  Now who knows when, if ever, we'll make it back into the tournament again.

Shoot man we've been better than the rest of the MVC several times lately and that's recruiting in the OVC lol. We finished middle of the pack with a ragtag collection of 12 new scholarship players this year. I ain't skeered a lick.
You are right again.  I just get discouraged occasionally thinking how close we have been to breaking through to the sweet sixteen so many times, but....(insert key injury, key call, key turnover here).  So many "if only's" and now to see this year's sweet sixteen populated by underdogs sorta bothers me.
Getting in the tournament is hard.  Yes, you are correct, we will get back again probably sooner than later.  But winning once is hard and winning twice has not been possible for us.  I just can't help but think of what could have been this year.

It's still hard to conceive of a sweet sixteen without Duke, UNC, Syracuse, Indiana, Kentucky, Kansas, etc.  Its a new world and I'm loving it.

You need to correct this fast.  FDU and Duke lost.

The Myrtle Beach Invitational was fun to attend, but I wonder how much it helped any of the participants.  The winner, UMASS didn't finish with a winning record, and only two teams, A&M and Boise State, made the NCAA tournament and both were bounced in round one.  Even though Texas A&M finished second in the SEC both in the  regular season and tournament, they were seeded behind lesser SEC teams in part because they lost to  teams like us.
My question is what incentive will teams like Texas A&M have in the future for entering tournaments where they might lose to a Murray State.  I am worried that the message the committee sent to A&M this year is going to make it incredibly difficult for MVC teams to improve their NET rankings.

Was surprised DeVries was capable of an off night like that after the games I have watched him play.  Wish it would have happened in the MVC quarterfinals.  It reminded me of the night DT Mayes had when we played Duke and lost by 3.  DT was a great 3 point specialist and think he went 1/9 that game from deep.
I was really disappointed in Drake since my final four was Drake, Arizona, Memphis and UCLA.  Really glad I don't bet on sports!
