Men's Basketball / Indiana State in the CBI
March 20, 2023, 11:01:21 PM
The Sycamores lost in Overtime to ex-OVC and current ASUN member Eastern Kentucky 88-89.

Bummer.

That was the last of the MVC teams in post-season action.

Looking forward to the certain improvement for the 2023-2024 basketball season.

Men's Basketball / NCAA Tournament
March 20, 2023, 05:07:39 PM
Sweet Sixteen

IF only the higher seeded teams won, there there should be 4 #1 seeds and 4 #2 seeds, 4 #3 seeds and 4 #4 seeds left.

Here's the teams left in the Sweet 16..... (Teams in Parentheses are "supposed" to be there.)

(#1 Alabama)
#5 San Diego State

#6 Creighton
#15 Princeton

-----------------------------

(#4 Tennessee)
#9 Florida Atlantic

(#3 Kansas State)
#7 Michigan State

----------------------------

(#1 Houston)
#5 Miami, Florida

(#2 Texas)
(#3 Xavier)

----------------------------

(#4 Connecticut)
#8 Arkansas

(#2 UCLA)
(#3 Gonzaga)

So only 56.25% of the teams left in the Sweet 16 are "supposed" to be there.

Crazy Tournament this year.

Rooting for Princeton and Fairleigh Dickinson to continue their fantastic runs!

Men's Basketball / Drake vs Miami, Florida
March 17, 2023, 09:06:20 PM
Drake made the same mistake so many coaches do time and time again.....

They ate shot clock down to 3 seconds and couldn't get a good look and allowed Miami to come from 8 points down to win by 7.

Men's Basketball / MVC Tournament
February 24, 2023, 10:56:42 AM
If the teams that are supposed to win their last game of the Conference Regular Season actually win, then this is what the tournament seeds will look like.....

SCHOOL                         NXT GM MVCREC TIE BREAK
# 1 BRADLEY                 69-66?   16-04
# 2 DRAKE                     66-69?  15-05
# 3 BELMONT                 74-73?   14-06      (BRADLEY)
# 4 SOUTHERN ILLINOIS 66-61?   14-06      (MISSOURI STATE)
# 5 INDIANA STATE        71-68?   14-06
# 6 MURRAY STATE         76-69?   11-09      (BRADLEY)
# 7 MISSOURI STATE      68-71?   11-09
# 8 NORTHERN IOWA     73-74?   10-10
# 9 ILLINOIS STATE        72-64?   06-14
#10 VALPARAISO           69-76?   05-15
#11 ILLINOIS CHICAGO   61-66?   04-16
#12 EVANSVILLE 64-72? 01-18

Our win over Bradley was huge!

MONKEY WRENCH SCENARIOS

If Bradley beats Drake they will be the MVC Regular Season Champions.

We need Bradley to win as we have the 6-seed tie breaker over Missouri State.

If Drake beats Bradley they will share the MVC Regular Season Championship with Bradley.

If Drake wins Missouri State is 2-0 against Drake and they have the tie breaker over us.

If Belmont loses to Northern Iowa, they will be the 5 Seed and Northern Iowa will stay the 8-seed due to tie breakers.

If Southern Illinois loses to Illinois-Chicago, they will fall to the 5-seed and Illinois-Chicago will remain the 11-seed due to tie breakers.

If Indiana State loses to Missouri State, they will remain the 5-seed due to record and will be the 6-seed and Murray State will fall to the 7-seed.

If Murray State loses to Valparaiso they will fall to the 9-seed due to record and tie breakers and Valparaiso will stay the 10-seed due to record and tie breakers.

This is assuming that tie breakers are not decided by teams that had unbalanced schedules - I thank that is poor practice, if so.

All that being said, with the above in mind, this is what the MVC Tournament will look like.....

Thursday Games
 5 INST       6 MURR     7 MOST     8 NOIA
12 EVAN   11 ILCH     10 VALP      9 ILST

Quarterfinals
1 BRAD 2 DRAK 3 BELM 4 SILL
8 NOIA 7 MOST 6 MURR 5 INST

4 SILL 3 BELM

General Sports Discussions / SEMO
February 23, 2023, 11:00:16 PM
SEMO lost @ Lindenwood in 2OT, but that last shot from the hash by SEMO to send it to triple overtime kissed off the glass, bounced off the front of the rim, bounced off the glass again, and bounced twice off the front of the rim again before agonizingly rolling off the front of the rim.

Lindenwood came back from 15 points down to beat UTM and today, they came from 20 points down and had 4 starters foul out to get the double overtime win 105-102.

One would think a tournament is just around the corner.

Women's Basketball / Katelyn Young POY?
February 21, 2023, 10:24:52 AM
Here's how Katelyn Young ranks within the Missouri Valley Conference.....

1ST-PPG, PTS, FTM, FGM and FGAs.

3RD-FG%, REBs, and FTAs.

4TH-RPG and FT%.

Do you think she has done enough to earn POY Honors in the MVC?

Is the team's record going to be a hindrance?

What's your thoughts?

I say she is the front-runner for POY.

2-7 AWAY                                9-1 HOME

Last Meeting at Murray, KY :
SIU Defeated Murray 63 TO 57 Ending Murray's 20-Game Home Winning Streak and giving Coach Steve Prohm his ONLY loss to SIU.

Keys to the game.....

  • Take care of the Ball - SIU excels at steals and forced turnovers, so they've got busy hands that pay off.  We must take care of the ball when handling it and especially watch the lazy/telegraphed passes which lead to transition baskets.
  • Guard the perimeter -

    • 90.8% of Brown's shots are 3's.
    • 80.8% of Wonders' shots are 3's.
    • 62.5% of Ferguson's shots are 3's.
    • 59.3% of Jones' shots are 3's.
    • 54.2% of Johnson's shots are 3's.
    • 53.4% of D'Amico's shots are 3's.
    • 52.1% of Banks' shots are 3's.
    • 50.6% of Newton's shots are 3's.
    3.  Keep those hands active on Defense -
SIU averages 13 Turnovers per game, but last  game out
against us, they only had 4.
        That's 9 opportunities lost!
    4. Aggressively attack the basket
We rank #1 in the MVC in Free Throws Made Per Game and
we're getting there by being aggressive and going to the rim.
