This is why they can't division out power 6 from everyone else.  It's also exactly why they'll divide it up.

Men's Basketball / Re: Question about OVC

It was straight up nerves.  Russell should've had a better game.  Taking the 30000 foot view, I'm just happy with where we are versus 3 years ago.
I hope there's a SEMO/Murray game in a couple of years, kind of see where we all are.

Quote from: wkeown on March 06, 2023, 04:29:43 PMAll I know is that as a representative of the OVC, Murray has gone to the tourney as a 5 and a 7 seed in the past.  So it wasn't that the OVC was holding us back.

That OVC no longer exists.  If you think we're getting a 5 or 7 seed - even with one of our historically best teams - playing in a league where the next best program is ranked in the mid to upper 200's - you're kidding yourself.  The top half of the OVC left and was replaced by 2 Division 2 move up programs and a bottom feeder D1 program.  Staying in the OVC was no longer an option once EKU, JSU, Peay and Belmont left - it's a crappy league that is destined to never get a seed above 15 ever again.  Only one 16 seed has ever won a game, and only a handful of #15 seeds have ever won a game.  Belmont and Murray gave the OVC a veneer of respectability, but the mid-level core of the league was lost when those other programs left.  Now the former bottom feeders (SIUE, TN Tech, TN State, UTM, EIU, etc.) are the new core of the league, and most of those programs are committed to NOT improving their facilities or programs.  No thanks.

I'm saving this post juuuuust in case

Can I ask what's the percentage of Murray fans compared to everyone else?  Did you guys travel well?

Meanwhile Russell from SEMO had to serve a 1 game suspension for excessive technicals, all of which came from mouthing off.  There must be something in the OVC bylaws that triggers a suspension for excessive technicals but kicks outright violence back to institutional discretion.

But hey...views, right?

I don't know what you guys do on Tuesday and Thursday nights now, but if any of you missed the SEMO TSU game tonight, you sure missed a doozy of an officiating...seminar, I guess?.   It was like OVC squared.  It was a good cross section of how officiating can not only ruin the flow of the game, but also essentially eggs the players into further conflict.  They definitely created the tense situation tonight.

So yeah, good move to the MVC.

As a St. Louis native, I'd recommend staying in the CWE for hotel and dining options.  It's a quick bus, metro, or Uber ride to Savvis center.  The West End is a great neighborhood for walking...lots of big homes and quiet streets, some great bars and restaurants.  It really helps dispel St. Louis's image as a crime cesspool.

Is anybody rooting for St. Peters right now?

I went to go see them play when SIU came to SF last December.  They run a very efficient game, from what I can tell.  I think if you guys can play your typical uptempo game AND limit the mistakes you should win.

Quote from: JWSEMO post_id=191133 time=1645921573 user_id=22139Ok, if we meet you guys in Evansville, tell Williams to take as many 3's as he wants.

This post did not age well.

Neither have I, my friend.  Neither have I. Who knew, huh?

I had a whole heartfelt post about not really having any connection to Murray other than attending SEMO, and one other time when I called a kid a Teletubby at the CSFB center back in 99.  One of my teachers in high school was a graduate, and I was impressed that MSU sent a representative to my high school; impressive because it was a little public school in St. Louis city.

I've always felt a kinship with Murray and other OVC schools simply due to the fact that we're all essentially mid-sized regional schools fighting for scraps, be they financial or otherwise.  So every bit of recognition that Murray or SEMO or anyone except Belmont gets, they've earned it the hard way.  I mean, you know you have to work harder when Digger Phelps keeps calling you Southwest Missouri State on national TV.

So please go on and prosper next year and beyond and gain some well earned recognition.  But also, when the hearbreak comes, make sure you cry on national tv so I can record it.

And 90racer,(racer90?)...I know things didn't go down the way you wanted.  I'm disappointed too.  But you'll be president one day, and then things will turn around...you'll see.

General Sports Discussions / Local coffee roaster
February 27, 2022, 09:05:50 PM
I'm going to post this here since it seems the most appropriate location...
Can you guys recommend a good coffee roaster local to the Murray area?  Since the pandemic began I've been doing a program of literally throwing a dart at the map and finding a coffee roaster nearby to order from.  They just have to be able to ship to California.  It's been a lot of fun; so far my favorite has been from Erie, Pa.

I figure it's a way to spread the love, so to speak.  And also to make a random order fulfillment guy in a random coffee shop say, "California?  What the hell?"

Quote from: 02Racer post_id=191149 time=1645928675 user_id=4518SEMO always has those huckleberries in the folding chairs right by the court talking shit the whole game. I'll never forget Ja walking right over and shushing them after breaking some chump's ankles and then posterizing another defender.

Yeah those guys are jerks. I know one of them and he's a jerk in real life also. A little mild heckling is fine but fans of a team that's only won 13 games all year shouldn't be talking smack. Quick comment though. You used the word huckleberry as an insult when it's actually a compliment. It means that you are the perfect person for a job. That explains Doc Holliday's "I'm your huckleberry" comment to the Ringo Kid in Tombstone! But I suppose if their job is being an a**hole they are huckleberries!

As stated in the Urban Dictionary

huckleberry
an ignorant country person, a bumpkin, a rube, someone ripe for the picking. When you encounter one on the road you say, hi Huck. Hence the name of Twain's character.

Thus...Peay fans and yes, SEMO fits as well!!!

Eh, urban dictionary...I created an entry in there for "fart ranger" one time that managed to stay up for a few years.  People can enter whatever they want on that site.

I can't wait to run into all 20 of their loud mouth dirtbag fans in Evansville...that is, if they advance.

I'm going to go ahead and "Like" this post.
