The wife and I will be there starting Friday (hoping we actually get to see the Racers play lol).

Assuming ESPN's stats are correct, we played an entire DI basketball game and grabbed 10 rebounds.  Not sure I've ever seen anything like that.  And I believe we have now been outscored by over 100 points in our last 3 games.

Quote from: fmftballmgr on February 04, 2023, 09:27:36 AMCan we get Dr.Wann to talk to the team and try to convince this team that road games are just like home games and they start finishing  road games out like they do at home.
I don't recall a season where a team had opposite records at home and on the road
Interesting tidbit: I've worked with every team at Murray State over my 32 years here.  Except one - Men's Basketball.

Getting some good press today.  CMM listed as Coach of the Week.

Coach of the Week: Matt McMahon, Murray State Racers
The last time Murray State and/or Belmont didn't win the regular-season championship in the Ohio Valley Conference was 2009, so these two programs' head-to-head matchups matter a bit more than other mid-major rivalries.

It's also why Murray State's 82-60 blowout win at Belmont on Saturday is so crucial, and positions McMahon and his Racers as the league favorite moving forward. Murray State once again has a slew of shot-making guards who can make plays: Justice Hill had eight 3s and 36 points on Saturday, while proven stud Tevin Brown had an efficient 18 points on 10 shots. Six-foot-ten KJ Williams gives the Racers legitimate size down low. He notched three double-doubles in a row before settling for 13 points and five boards against Belmont, and also helped limit the Bruins' Nick Muszynski to 12 points. Belmont had its worst 3-point shooting game of the season and was held to just 0.91 points per possession.

Some of the credit for Murray State's road performance also goes to McMahon, who prepared this team effectively in nonconference play, scheduling three true road games and playing in an MTE in Florida. The Racers won at Memphis in early December and also hung with Auburn for 25 minutes before losing right before Christmas.

I'd take the 2019-2020 version of Tevin Brown.
Or the 2019-2020 version of Chico Carter.
Or the 2019-2020 version of Q Smith.
Or the 2019-2020 version of D Robinson.
Or the 2019-2020 version of KJ Williams.
Or the 2019-2020 version of well, you get the idea.

Men's Basketball / Re: Seats this Season
November 30, 2020, 10:27:48 AM
IMO, no person/group should have been allowed to have tickets for the entire year.  The top donors get both the first pick of seats and a higher portion of games, let's say 80%.  Then it works down from there.  That way, far more Racer fans could have had tickets to at least a couple games.  And games they were aware of in advance and could have planned/scheduled for.  This makes far more fans happy and, I think, is more equitable (and remember, many of the big donors don't go to all the games anyway).

Essentially, the last person on the list that was called got a full season of tickets.  The VERY NEXT PERSON on the list, who likely was separated by only 1 or 2 priority points, got NOTHING.  I just don't think it had to be that way.

But, as I always say, what do I know.

JoeD:

The problem, is that, to continue the poker analogy, we don't have any chips and there is no money for a rebuy.

But all that everyone is saying is true.  The MVC is way better than the OVC - both in perception and in reality.  It just comes down to (the lack of) money.

Thanks everyone.  I appreciate the kind words.

If you haven't seen it, type "Dr. Fandom" into google.  Nice publicity for Racer basketball.

Taylor will be POY, but Adams was the best talent I've seen this year in the OVC. I also think he's got a great shot to play in the NBA. And soon. But, as for his performance last night, yes he got his points, but a deeper look at the box score shows his performance had huge holes. Rebounds: 0; Assists: 0; Turnovers: 5. Again, I'm not knocking the kid. He's a stud. Period. But his game last night looked far better on the surface then it did with a closer look. This is shown in 75s ratings as well, as his was only the third best performance despite scoring the most points, by a fairly wide margin.

Ended the game with two unused timeouts. Just saying....

Hey folks:

As many of you know, I do research on the psychology of sport fans.  I am conducting a study on fan behaviors at (after) the men's game tomorrow night.  I'd love to have as many Racer Nation folk as possible participate because we need as many die hard fans as we can get!

We will be passing out flyers at the game that give details and I'll copy the important parts and information below.  But I wanted to give you a heads up about the project and invite (ok, beg) you and your Racer fan friends to help us out.

Thanks,

Racerhawk

The flyer reads:

You are invited to participate in a short questionnaire study following tonight's game.  This study, which has been approved by the MSU IRB and is directed by Dr. Daniel Wann, involves answering questions about your thoughts and actions related to the MSU men's basketball team.  The information you provide will remain confidential and it should only take about 10-15 to complete the form.

If you are interested, please make your way to sections 201 and 202 (upper level endzone bleachers on opposite side from where the Racer Band sits, near Alcove A) immediately after the game and you will receive your questionnaire.

Thank you very much for your consideration in helping us with this study.

Amen Smidge.  Road games in conference are tough, especially when you are the team with the bulls-eye on your back.  That's us.  We get everyone's best shot, everyone's best crowd. (EIU had 2,400 for us Thursday, 1100 for APSU Saturday; SIU-E had 1,300 for ASPU Thursday, 2,200 for us Saturday).  I'll take ANY road win, particularly in conference.  (Heck, look what happened yesterday to the Jayhawks...)
