Re: RACERS @ Belmont Game Thread
I agree. Just to be clear, I'm not questioning coach with his player rotation and depth chart.
But I sometimes kind of think that Kamba is the best point guard on the team - it's a toss up between him and Carter.
Smith is passable at the point - but I just think he's better suited for the 2 guard spot.
Next season, with Eaves gone, I think the guard lineup of Carter/Kamba, Smith, and Brown will play out much better since they're all in their best spots.

Yes I agree there IS a reason why he isn’t playing and I’ll have to trust the half million $ man on that. Last night we weren’t playing one of the bottom 10 ranked teams in all the land like the other night.

Re: RACERS @ Belmont Game Thread
Belmont’s reported attendance in the Paducah Sun was 5,085. Maybe half of that was correct. Curb would have looked packed with 5,085.

Re: RACERS @ Belmont Game Thread
Javeon had 5 turnovers to only 1 assist. Hasn’t exactly been scorching the nets, so to me it would have been an opportune time to try something different. After the SIUE game CMM was speaking highly of Noah’s work ethic and a good couple of weeks of practice. I’d rather give him time now compared to, say if DaQuan or Eaves comes up with an injury come tourney time and we have to throw him in untested.
I would also love to see what this team could be with a healthy Cowart, Brion, and Matt Smith.

Re: RACERS @ Belmont Game Thread
I agree with the lots of turnovers. However the F1 on Anthony Smith to me was a horrible call. He never came back in which is a big loss. Anyone else think the call was terrible?

Re: RACERS @ Belmont Game Thread
It was another poor call. I don’t think any of the 3 flagrant 1 calls have been more than a good basketball play without ill intent. But Belmont only scored the free throws and so it wasn’t a critical call.
The EIU one was more critical because of free throws and change of possession.
I thought we got several bad calls in the first half, Belmont got more bad calls in 2nd half.

Yikes. Aside from the regular Racer Road Warriors, there were two busses of Racer Students at the game last night...

The (5,085) figure is the gym capacity. Reported attendance was “A: 2,703”

That is, pardon the vernacular, just piss poor attendance for supposedly the second best program in the conference.

Sorry, I didn't actually read the article or the box score in the Sun - I'm just going by what one person said here.
But now I know the second rule of Racer Nation... don't bad mouth the Paducah Sun... got it.

Re: RACERS @ Belmont Game Thread
Turnovers blew it for us. I give all credit to Belmont; easy to see that they keyed in on Tevin and dared the others to beat them. There was a body on Tevin and a hand in his face, for nearly the entire game, especially anytime he was on the perimeter. Guard play let us down. I'd have loved to see Noah get more minutes, especially after Eaves' 5th TO (he's got a streak going) I did not notice points off T/O's for the Bruins, but it was too many. No good reason to expect to win when you lose the ball that many times, and many, if not most, were just poor decisions or execution. When Tevin in-bounded almost right to a Bruin...JoeD wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 9:16 am Hold on now...
Last night, on the road, after committing 20 turnovers, after Tevin only had 10 points, after having two of our better players in foul trouble early in the first half.... we were within a possession of winning the game late in the second half. Lets not act like we got the floor wiped with our faces. We have the ability to cause as many mismatches as we get and i think more, when KJ is hitting jumpers, or even Demond hits 15 footers.
Lets not pretend that its was the bigs that had 14 of the 22 turnovers. Our guard play was terrible last night and we almost snuck out a win. We were able to put a lot of length on the floor last night and it caused problems. I bet if all we did was eliminate unforced errors, I would bet that we win last night.

In his 5th season, I'd hoped Coach had gotten to where he would have a team ready for the back-door cut that the Bruins are so good at rubbing our noses in, but I guess not. The good news is, Belmont runs them with reckless abandon in the reg season meeting, but the last 2 Championship games, McMahon seems to have the team ready for those.
It was a looong drive back to P-town, but made a little nicer by hearing the other OVC scores, lol. Was great to see the traveling students this year, and a nice Racer turnout once again. But, it looks like the Belmont crowd has slowly dwindled over the last 3 visits, and this for a game with a major conference rival. How did everyone like the new parking garage????
Go Racers!
Joe

Re: RACERS @ Belmont Game Thread
Not necessarily the Paducah Sun, their ownership is an article’s worth of discussion lol, but more to the point Ed Marlowe. Dude is passionate and thorough, you ain’t gotta worry about his coverage. It’s excellent.

Re: RACERS @ Belmont Game Thread
Reporting was probably a poor choice of words. Looks as if Belmont sent the 5085 attendance figure to the press.
