RACERS vs 2013-2014 RACERS

Post by 75Fan » Sun Feb 10, 2019 2:44 pm

The 2013-2014 Racers made for a memorable season when they won the CIT Championship.

I wondered who would win on a neutral court if they played this year's team.

Here's the adjusted player ratings and prediction for this hypothetical game.....
(This year's Racers in yellow, 2013-14 Racers in Orange)

PLAYER RATING
JA MORANT	152.7546

CAMERON PAYNE	148.7280

SHAQ BUCHANAN 95.5036
DEXTER FIELDS 93.4892
TEVIN BROWN 93.4857

_________________________________________________

Here's my prediction for this game.....

STAT	MURRAY	13-14 Racers
FGM	25	24
FGA	52	64

I don’t think our bigs this year could contain Jarvis and Jonathon. I do think that watching Sapp guard Ja and Shaq on Cam would be very interesting though.

This thread makes me wonder. What would your all time Racer starting five be? Only five players. Now that would be a difficult roster to come up with.

Plus a Gilmore vs Gilmore would be great to watch. I can still see the look that Pep would get whenever he got the ball.

For what my eyes have seen, I would propose the following.....

1. Jeff Martin
2. Popeye Jones
3. Ja Morant
4. Marcus Brown
5. Ricky Hood

I wasn't around for the early teams, but Dick Cunningham, Joe Fulks, and Stew Johnson certainly are deserving of consideration.

Also deserving of consideration in modern times is Cuthbert Victor, Aubrey Reese, Vincent Rainey, Isaac Spencer, Isaiah Canaan, Jarvis Williams, Don Mann, and Paul King.

I'm sure I'm leaving plenty of great players out.

We've seen some great players come through Murray, Kentucky through the years!

Gotta have lottery pick Cam Payne in the greatest guards list.

Ja Morant or Cam Payne?

Marcus Brown or Isaiah Canaan?

Ike Spencer or James "Chicago" Singleton?

Popeye Jones or Dick Cunningham?

Les Taylor or Jeff Martin?

And you could make another all-star team with the next 10 or 20 (Jim Jennings, Stew Johnson, Howie Crittenden, Bennie Purcell, Johnny Reagan ...) Pretty good history of basketball at this school.

To the early teams list I would have to add Claude Verdin, Frank Streety, Jimmy Young and Hector Blondett. These guys were in the 68-71 era.

Lists are always based on what you've seen. My earliest games are Martin and Mann. I wish I could time machine back before to see what it was like in the 60's and 70s. Here's my list...

Martin
Popeye
Ja
Canaan
Brown

It would be awesome to see how far of a run that starting five would go!!!

My list could have added 5 or 6 more guards.

While Cam was a very good player, I did not think he was one of the top ones I've seen. Yes he was a lottery pick, but in my view he was below a few others. Meant to be objective.

Could have added Justin Burdine, Trey Pearson, Mann, Chad Townsend, Frank Allen... There's too many to narrow down a list.

We have just had too many really good players come through.

Popeye
Jeff Martin
Ja
Paul King
Ike Spencer
But like everyone else has said pretty hard to narrow it down to 5!

A few others DT Mayes, Glen Green, Ricky Hood, Gary Hooker, Marcus Brown, Frank Allen, Aubree Reese,Cuthbert Victor, Cam Payne, the list could go on and on!
