According to Adam Wells on Twitter, Mitch Stewart has been reassigned in the athletic department and is no longer coach

Yep, if there's money to pay him AND a new head coach then the money was there (or will be) all along. Or am I missing something?

Is that different from a buyout?

I did some light research on their staff and there's no one I want...

Random,thought.

Stewart takes a slight pay cut but gets a cushy job, mean while since he was "reassigned" not fired as an employee of,the university no buy out. Which saves the school money and coach gets an easy job until he decides, what's next. When he leaves then no buyout is due?

So I know there lot of anti UK here which I get but that staff has recurited very well. Just something to think about. Also Saal probably has connections to other coaches in the SEC.

There hasn’t been much consistent winning done in Lexington. I’d love to have someone from a program with a better track record of success, even if it was at a level below the SEC.

I’m glad to see our AD make a commitment to football - changing directions at least gives us hope that things can get better! It was obvious we were going nowhere with Stewart. I doubt Saal views MSU as his destination job, and he knows to move up to the next level he needs to build a football program that at least competes at the upper levels of the OVC.

There will be several assistants that will be cut loose soon from top programs, when their coaches change positions, or are let go. Some will hook on elsewhere, and some will be tired of their future depending on someone else. Some of these talented young men will see a head coaching position as a step up, even at a lesser salary for two or three years. This is how we got Gottfried, and Nutt. They were assistants who wanted to head up a program of their own. I don't mind having someone who is motivated and wants to move to the Bowl subdivision. In fact that may be a desirable quality.

I don't care who it is or what school they came from. I just want a reason to go to the games on Saturday. That motivation hasn't been there in years.

I do wonder what actual job Mitch will be doing until the contract is up?

I’ve been reading lots of scuttlebutt on FB about going after Nutt. Reggie Swinton says he called him and is awaiting a return call. Personally I believe we have little to no chance but man that would be a blast from the past. I hear he is going after the Arkansas job hard so sounds like a pipe dream.

Maybe its just a way of saying he is on paid administrative leave so they won't have to say the fired word yet.

Or he is on desk duty now.

Who cares? He’s still on the payroll. No way to dress this up any way but what it is.

Edit: I want to clarify I’m not mad we fired him. I’m mad we extended him 3 years and fired him after 1, costing an already broke department money we don’t have.

For us to be playing well at the beginning of the year to how it ended (guys doing push-ups during a live play) it showed me nobody cared. Normally I could say there was a key injury that really cost us or something, but the only injury I know of Honeycutt that happened before the season started so we had time to adjust. Coach and the players just checked out and it was embarrassing to see. SEMO game kinda showed some fight, but too late.

Actually Reggie has been trying to get Nutt back to Arkansas. Cecil had the call into Nutt. But also Robert Reyonlds has been trying to get Nutt into a school out west where his nephew goes. He is also a member of their version of RFAA

I also was wondering where his reassignment would be to.

Would not surprise me to see him end up back with Hatcher
