Hang in there

Post by runningracer »

The Racer women have had a tough time in the first six conference games. They have had to play a Martin team twice that may be the best that has been in the OVC in many years when healthy, a SEMO team that was supposed to be near the top of the league, and an undefeated Tech team in conference. They have talent, and can surprise as exhibited by their earlier win against SEMO. We need to encourage them as they move forward with a more favorable schedule after Thursday night, as they can still make the tournament. I would encourage the team to follow the advice of the late Pat Summit when players would come into her office feeling that they had got the short end of the stick, "Keep your chin up, Buttercup, Tomorrow is a new day.".

Good win by Racers on Saturday. Look forward to more wins as they look to get into the tournament.

How about that win?! That was fun and I gave that ref a little grief for letting a woman get under his skin so easy lol. She claimed all she said was “That wasn’t a foul!”

A BIG WIN! Even though the record is not indicative of their talent, and ability, it will improve. They had as tough of a schedule in conference as a young team could have. To come back with their starting point in foul trouble all night, and two other starters playing several minutes with four fouls, they refused to give up. This team has a bright future. Hawthorne gets better every game, Gibson is the player she appeared to be before her injury last year, and Burpo has improved as much as anyone in the league. A great move by Coach Turner, to get her more involved.

As for the technical, it probably wasn't so much what she said, as the tone she used.

Nice week for the ladies, getting them back in the top 8 for Evansville. They have a tough one Thursday, Belmont, but should be favored on Saturday, TSU. 1 and 1 this week should keep them in line for the tourney. The three Murray High Racers are 2,3,and 4 in minutes played for the conference season. Burpo is becoming an all conference candidate.

She was probably the "least heralded" of the Murray High trio but I've been very impressed with her development.

The officiating tonight was comical lex Mayes got a technical after hitting a three, pointing at her teammate, and saying “good pass”
It's not easy being the best, but around here it's tradition.

I don't believe he thought Lex did anything wrong. Anybody that has watched her the last two years knows how under control she plays. I believe he was looking for an excuse to bait Coach Turner. Watching his looks toward her when she previously got upset led me to believe that he was itching to do everything he could to T her up. That kind of attitude doesn't deserve to be issued a whistle. I hope the OVC investigates this action, and this official. I won't hold my breath.

I don't believe he gave Lex Mayes a tech because of something Coach Turner did. He thought Lex was taunting when she was actually just pointing at her teammate and saying "good pass."

Clinched a spot in the tourney tonight. A win Saturday gets them the 7th seed I believe.

That wasn't the first game for that official. He knew what she was doing.
