I was surprised to not see McMullen on the top 50 PF list. Kid looks like a stud, hope we get big news this weekend! If not him who will our third top 50 be? Can it just be basketball season please?
Check out the #26 kid on the PF list. That’s one of several different players on the lists we are on.

So we have made the final list of 3 or 4 nice recruits but only have one scholarship at this point. So what happens if more than 1 decides Murray is for him? And if they know we only have 1 scholarship does that make them decide any faster?

Meka looks like he would be a really good get. Appears to be a great shot blocker and is a great athlete, could have an immediate impact in the OVC with that height and athleticism. Keep in mind with the only one scholly left that transfers happen almost every year, so I highly doubt the staff tells any of these three guys that we don't have room if they choose Murray. The best players will be on the team, the rest will get figured out.

So basically we are going to resort to the Donnie Tendall recruiting method he used at Morehead, recruit / sign 15-20 and keep the best and screw over the rest

Lol why get all tore up and start bringing up Donnie Tyndall when we still have one open scholarship? This is how it’s done, we don’t know which if any are gonna sign so you cover all your bases. Nothing new to see here we ALWAYS have more offers out than positions open and the coaches are in contact with the recruits, nobody is gonna commit in the fall without an opening. The day we have commitments from too many before the season starts, bitch away. We routinely sign extras in the spring anyway as we usually lose 2-3 to transfer. Football is same way but on a much larger scale.

Not sure where you got we should screw other players for new players from my post but I assure you that isn’t what I was suggesting. However if you would prefer to not even think about signing an extra player that’s a stud, so that there is no chance that the staff has to have a hard conversation with a player who doesn’t fit with the program then by all means let’s not hurt anyone’s feelings! That being said, as Smidge mentioned, there not being any transfers in a year is rare and not how things usually go. Now personally, I would rather have a 3 star recruit that could be a great player for our program sign now, than have to scramble to replace the transfer in the summer and get who we can get... not sure how that is screwing everyone else

I guess I took it the wrong way when you said

The best players will be on the team, the rest will get figured out.

I was just trying to get some thought what the recruits and coaches would be thinking going in with 1 scholarship and at least 3 guys final list and still trying to be ethical about. Would have it have been first come first served?
Or as you think we force someone out who works his butt off but is not as talented

with is is also on the list of schools of the recruits we may not get any of the players

I guess I just have a different "ethical" line than you. Don't get me wrong, I am all about honoring hard work etc. But this is a D-1 basketball program and a pretty darn good one with that. I am never about kicking people off the team just because they didn't end up being as good as once thought. BUT are you opposed to the coaching staff having a conversation with a player about their realistic spot on the team for the rest of their time? If a JUCO transfer or a freshman turn out to not be a fit, are you saying it is unethical for the staff to tell them they are welcome and their scholarship will be honored but while also telling them that their best chance to play is to look elsewhere? I think that is totally ethical and happens at big programs. Not sure what happens if we have more commits than scholarships and nobody leaves, but I think you are getting worried about something that is highly unlikely to happen. Has that situation ever happened in recent years? I trust the coaches know what they are doing, and yes, I think that means the best players will be on the team.

I know players don't work out all the time and some leave cause they thought they deserve more playing time.

but like I said I was just trying to have a different conservation about our current situation of 1 scholarship and 3 stud recruit. 2 are local and 1 dad's is an alumni. Not about what if's

Hard to say this without sounding like a smart aleck but I’m saying it anyway lol, the staff along with the recruits and their families have 100% absolutely got this. We can relax as far as trying to figure out offers vs open scholarships. We have about 1% of the information while they have it all.

I wouldn’t doubt us oversigning this fall period either, though I mentioned earlier we don’t usually. These guys are on some studs and honestly, scholarships are year to year especially in this age of graduate transfers. If a recruit comes along that can potentially make a huge impact on your program, no “open” scholarships left and you have a fella who basically is taking up a bench spot as a practice squad player, as hard as it may sound it’s the nature of recruiting now.
