161. 2G Jalen Cameron, West Florence HS, Florence, SC, 6’4” 175
Source:
http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/jalen-cameron/sAmRDW57EeOzMAAmVebBJg/gendersport/basketball-stats.htm
http://www.phenomhoopreport.com/news_article/show/748282-6-6-unsigned-senior-jalen-cameron-of-west-florence-hs-sc-
1,500 career points…South Carolina 4A All-State as a sophomore…South Carolina 4A All-State as a junior…11 points per game on 59% shooting on the Under Armour Circuit…How is this lengthy 6’5” prospect still available?!

Cameron is in his 4th season as a Starter at West Florence High School. Last night, in the win against South Carolina Top 10 ranked 5A program Sumter High School, Cameron had a typical Cameron game as he went for 24 points (11-12 FT & 1-2 from 3) 16 boards, 5 assists, and 3 steals.

Including his team’s 15-3 start this season and Cameron’s two All-State seasons, the 6’5” wing is averaging 19.2 points on 51% shooting, 8.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.4 steals per game. Incredibly productive.

In talking with a Division 1 coach recently about seniors who are available late in the process, and we came to the conclusion that production should always win out over projection. Cameron has schools like USC Upstate, Radford, VMI, South Carolina State, The Citadel, UNC Greensboro, Appalachian State and others who are recruiting him.

Cameron is qualified, and we have seen a lot of him over the past couple of seasons always asking why most schools in the region were not all over him. After his performance in the 2015 David Rose Memorial Day Classic we wrote, “Jalen Cameron is a long and active wing. His long arms allowed him to do a lot on the offensive end and his tenacity allowed him to attack the rim, and finish in the half and full court settings.”

After his performance against the state’s best players at the prestigious South Carolina Top 80 event, we wrote, “Cameron came into the event with a bulls-eye because reputation he built over the summer. Not only did he answer the call, he far surpassed it. Being a marked man, Cameron came out as the camp’s second leading scoring going for over 20 per game. Cameron’s camp coach BJ Jackson stated, “Jalen was a pleasure to coach. He showed great intensity, he hit the open shots, and he was team oriented.” A staunch perimeter defender, Cameron’s stock is on the considerable rise. He showed he could consistently hit shots with range here.”

Here it is, January of 6’5” wing Jalen Cameron’s senior year. His resume is extraordinary, yet he is still available. Take production late, is what they say, you don’t produce more than what Cameron has done in his high school and AAU career. Coaches…come to Florence, go home with a steal.

Sounds impressive. Think we have a shot? Do we already have too many players that play his position?

Brion Whitley, D3 M.O.A.M., 2017: He’s been playing at HoopSeen events nearly since we launched our site five years ago. So it doesn’t come as a big surprise to see the Floridian do well on a big stage. The 6-foot-3 guard pumped in a cool 30 points on opening night. He’s one of the best scorers in the midrange and off the pull-up in Florida and could be in line for a great weekend of work moving forward here at the TOC. Whitley said he’s holding an offer from Rice while Harvard is very interested. Georgia Southern, Florida Gulf Coast, Lipscomb, VMI and Murray State are also in the picture.

Region 3 player of the year sounds impressive. He was a nominee for Ky Mr. Basketball. I wonder how many were nominated state wide. Sounds like he might have been able to get a full scholarship at SWAC level or D 2. I wonder if anyone offered him a scholarship.

Mladen Armus is a 6-9 power forward / center who is big, strong, and knows how to use his frame to clear out space inside for rebounds and scoring opportunities. Not a leaper, but moves well laterally and is active. He’s also skilled enough to play facing the basket, and shows good vision passing down low from the high post and passing to cutters when he is posted down low.
Armus, who arrived to SCA in August by way of Serbia, seems to be acclimating to his teammates and Baker’s system well, and has gone on a recent run of putting up double-doubles as the Lions have played strong competition through 6 games in the TCAL.

That's what I get for not watching the local news. He played ball 20 minutes from my house and I've never heard of him. I've lived in Mississippi since 1993. But, I just can't get interested in local high school basketball unless I know the Racers are recruiting someone. Different school than Terron Gilmore. Might still be kin. I don't know. Hopefully, Devin sees much more PT than Terron did.

I guess the big name schools that Devin was interested in told him he'd have to sit at least a couple of years before he could get any playing time. Hopefully at the OVC level he can develop into a 12 point, 7-8 rebound per game guy for us,

Im telling you, you don't bring a guy in on an official to tell him he will sit for two years. I would bet this guy didn't take his ACT early enough.
