Is something wrong with Kirby and Whitley?
Kirby with 0 minutes.
Whitley with 0 minutes.

Re: RACERS vs UT-Martin Game Thread
Another solid game even though we cooled off in the second half a bit. Offense is really flowing now and Tevin looks fresher than he has in awhile, since Chico has stepped up.
Got a really good chance to win out if they can figure out how to get physical enough to match Jax State’s intensity. Improving on the offensive boards is the key for this team to become championship caliber. Jax State will be a great litmus test for that.
If we they win out, I really like their chances to get one more shot at Belmont. That is all I want.

Re: RACERS vs UT-Martin Game Thread
I, too, believe we CAN win out.
I'm starting to believe that the turnover situation has been taken care of.
The speed of the game seems to be more under control.
Tevin is starting to shoot within the flow of the offense and not always looking to drive to the basket. I think it is helping his outside stroke.
Blocking out is still one of the fundamentals that not every Racer is doing at a high enough level to limit offensive rebounds, but there is improvement in this area.
Free Throw shooting is still a mystery to me. KR mentioned during the game against SEMO that Hill and Williams don't have repeatable shots. This is something the coaches can - and should - work with our players on (if they are not already doing that ).
Our shooting percentages are back up and I think it is because we are shooting earlier in the shot clock and not pressured by having 3 seconds left on the shot clock.
Defense is superb but my one wish is that we were more willing to accept charges rather than moving out of the way when our opponents drive to the basket.
I would like to see more PT for Kirby, Sivills, McMullen and Whitley as we need fresh legs during this brutal stretch of games and the added confidence they will gain from meaningful playing time may very well pay dividends for us when it counts the most - OVC Tournament time.
Continued improvement game-to-game is just what the doctor oredered and hopefully we will be playing our very best basketball at tournament time.
I'm still looking at the all the possible scenarios but I'm almost convinced that if Belmont wins out and loses in the championship game, they will get another bid to the NCAAs but there's still a lot to consider but they DO have a decent chance at this point.
Deep appreciation goes out to the coaching staff and players for making the adjustments that have contributed to our playing a much improved brand of basketball the last 3 or 4 games.
Keep up the great work and Hey!.....Go Racers!!!

Re: RACERS vs UT-Martin Game Thread
I’m mostly good with Coach’s lineups, subs and minutes lately. Honestly a HUGE part of the turnaround was the lineup change he made with those needing less minutes getting less and has stuck with it thankfully. I’d probably sub in Gilmore more, but the results speak for themselves. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

I’d be very happy if we win out and someone beats Belmont in these last two weeks. The thought of them going undefeated in conference play makes me want to puke.

Re: RACERS vs UT-Martin Game Thread
These comments are spot on. We are shooting earlier in the clock and they are good shots is a prime indicator that the team is beginning to understand who they are and what their strengths are. Chico’s offense has been the missing cog all along. Some of those drives inside last night were outstanding. I think we are a better team now primarily because teams are having to respect our outside ability more than our interior play, which going into the season I thought would be our strength. We are probably still shooting more outside than CMM likes, but the results are showing that the offense flows better with this being the primary threat. Great job by the coaching staff for adjusting. This has been an odd year. Honestly thought that our interior play was going to be dominant this year and KJ has played great, but the fact is, we always seem to be a guard oriented scoring offense and nothing has changed there other than the fact that a second scoring guard threat has emerged.75Fan wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 12:21 pm I, too, believe we CAN win out.

Re: RACERS vs UT-Martin Game Thread
I'm with you thinking that our bigs would be our main threat and am quite pleased that they aren't our only ones, however, i wish we'd go down to them more to keep the defense honest. These teams know how troublesome KJ is so if they double or triple team him then he should kick it out but if they dont, then its a free 2 points usually. Plus i'd just like to keep KJ happy so he doesn't transfer lol.wkeown wrote: ↑Sun Feb 14, 2021 3:13 pmThese comments are spot on. Another thing i hope we improve on is our bench becoming more of a factor. It seemed that as soon as we took tevin and chico out, we had no scoring threats so we were just stalling them while our starters got rest. Our bench only had 11 points so if anything i'd like that to improve a bit.

Re: RACERS vs UT-Martin Game Thread
Demond is getting better at blocking out but lacks in going to the ball. Last night he’d clear his man out but then would watch the ball drop in front of him. If we can get him going to the ball with two hands (and also not jumping and slapping down at every ball fake) he would be a very effective rebounder and defender.

Re: RACERS vs UT-Martin Game Thread
Agree about Demond, he is still waiting for the ball to come to him, and I see a couple of the guards doing that also, occasionally. Great rebounders are always moving to the ball, not waiting for it.
Noticing a little more spark from the coach, as well. He actually bit off a head or two in the TO at the lull in the 2nd half, and lit a little fire. It was needed.
