RACERS vs. SEMO

Post by RacerPreacher »

It goes without saying that every game becomes must win at this point. Getting that win at Eastern was huge and now if we can string together 6 or 7 more we have a decent record and some confidence going into the tournament. I see SEMO putting up more of a fight Thursday against us than they did last week. I'm ready to see what this group can do now that we have several guys playing well and hitting some shots. :goracers:

Let's see what happens...the question is WHICH TEAM WILL SHOW UP
I want to know what in world happened to Tevin?
He used to get into the 20's or even 30's points score wise

Thirteen point average? And Coach says that we'll see Tevin in the NBA someday???????

Anyway...let's hope!

I could be wrong, for sure, but with Tevin, the rest of the league has learned to be in his face non-stop. Even late last season, you could see some of this, but for sure, he has someone, and sometimes 2 someones, in his face nearly all the time. He, and the team, have not adjusted well to it, and as others on here have noted, he is struggling to create his own shot this year. I haven't looked it up, but it looks to me like his FT% is down, too. I hate it for him, but he still works hard, and I like his defense.

That is reasonable...

But Ja, Starks, Payne and Canaan all had men in their faces too - and look at the difference.
Something's wrong - Tevin just can't figure it out - nor can Coach apparently.

If we get into the tournament, maybe Tevin can turn on the after-jets

Yeah i feel the pressure is getting to him and he's in a slight panic mode some of the time.Look towards the end of games when coach puts the ball in his hand for him to make a play, what happens? He tries to make a play by forcing it and turns the ball over or gets his shot blocked.

Whereas when Ja was here, all eyes were focused him so all Tevin had to do was stand in the corner and wait for a wide open 3. Even with Ja gone, he still wasn't really focused on that hard except towards the end of last season and definitely this season and it shows.

He's just gotta work through that mentally and only he can do it. He definitely has the talent to be that guy but he's got to want it.

Canaan and Starks were masters at moving off the ball. Running off picks, giving what the defense gave them and creating their shots. Tevin struggles with that and he has a lot of open looks this year but he is just off. Not sure if it’s a confidence thing or what.

SEMO should already be in town unless they operate on a travel same day basis. Not sure but if in town I don’t see why they wouldn’t play unless power is out.

Let’s not forget that the last game Stark played as a Racer, he was 1-12 in FG, with that one make being a 3 pt shot (which he was 1-10 in 3pt shots for the game). Jevon Carter just shut him down.

Tevin is always facing the best defender, sometimes two of them, so of course it cuts down on his production. Carter and Williams stepping up their offense lately should begin to yield more production for him down the road, let’s hope. My guess on FT pct issues, which began to crop up last year, is due to fatigue. Defensively, he is the best Racer on the floor and that effort takes it toll at the FT line. I’m not making excuses for Tevin, just casting my observations.

That means three games in four days, four in one week. That will make six games for us in ten days, with three of them on the road, at SIUE, Jacksonville, and Tech. Not any way around it, as days are limited. This team will either get tough, or fade. Hope our bench is up to the task.

Amazing how good the offense looks when there’s a second perimeter scorer.

I thought someone posted the OVC had a rule about the numbers of games a team can play in a week. Did I image that or what is the OVC rule?
