Here is the floor plan that will be a new multi-sports facility in downtown Clarksville. They are teaming with the Preds to make this happen

I play adult hockey in Nashville at Ford Ice Center Antioch and people drive down from Clarksville, Fort Campbell and Bowling Green just to play in Nashville. Adult Hockey has just taken over most of the region and glad it is being built.

We had tons of slipping and travels in that game due to moisture on the floor.

Anyone remember?

I hope they don't have that problem.

"The MPEC will have five floors featuring an array of meeting spaces and conference halls. The primary arena is expected to seat between 4,900 and 6,400 people and will be able to accommodate a broad range of events, including hockey, basketball, trade shows, monster truck rallies, rodeos and concerts. Optional partitions will enable multiple events at one time."

But I guess the main question here is can it pull off a boat show?

We could probably give the expo center a face lift and turn it in to a hockey rink.

Many basketball arenas serve dual purpose for hockey as well, including both college and pro arenas. They have a thick pad of insulation board that goes on over the top of the ice before the basketball floor is laid. I've tried to attach a link to a youtube video showing a time lapse video of the Ford Center hosting 3 events within 24 hours - Monster truck rally, UE basketball, and a hockey game. Pretty interesting to watch.

As a side note, a lot of the arenas that normally have ice as a foundation under the basketball floors won't have that this year. Many of the minor leagues in hockey have cancelled their seasons.

The real question is will the new arena have bleachers that are non-functioning for 15 years?

Minor league hockey games are way more fun to me than NHL. Sorta like minor league baseball, where all the players are playing to make their names and it has more action. If they can get a minor league hockey team I'll go frequently.

Do they need more than 5 or 6,000? Indiana State plays in a 10,000 seat arena that has just been renovated but there won't be 3,000 people there most nights (once COVID ends). Does anyone know how many seats the lower bowl of the Ford Center has?

The Dunn Center seats 7,500.

It seats twice that with upper bleachers extended I bet. Well, maybe not twice but a lot.

The sad thing about it is, I remember when those bleachers were pulled out all the way for a Murray-APSU game in the 70's, and they still had few, if any seats unsold. There was a lot more support for all programs at that time. The admission of Martin, SIUE, and SEMO, replacing Middle Tennessee, East Tennessee, and Western, along with other programs that are less competitive has been to the detriment of all the OVC schools.

I think most schools struggle to draw fans now. I'm not sure exactly why, but TV has to be a big reason. Where as before going to a Peay game (or any other school) might be a cool thing to do, watching Tennessee play Kentucky on ESPN from the comfort of the couch is the cool thing to do now and it's cheaper.

They could put Kentucky on a continuous loop for a week, and I still wouldn't watch them. No doubt they have talent, and a coach who recruits well. I just find their basketball program meaningless.

Regarding the new arena for the Governors in downtown Clarksville, it appears they are counting on smaller attendance over the long haul. New seating capacity for basketball, according to the design firm Rufus Johnson, will be 5,500. Current seating at the Dunn Center is 7,257 according to their website. Hockey seating at 4,600 and up to 6,400 for concerts.
