Tick,

Only quoting you because you were one of the first to post numbers. I used this as a base and for no other reason.

I don’t mind at all. In one week, my view of this virus has changed. It’s amazing the spike in cases and deaths in one week’s time. In seems like as soon as the WHO declared it a pandemic, and Rudy Gobert contracted it, this virus took off in the U.S.A. Because there is more testing now, the number of cases are naturally going to jump a little quicker than it would have, I think the spike in deaths (unfortunately) is a truer indication of the transmission of the virus.

Hopefully, with all the precautions and warmer weather coming, maybe we can see this turning around in a few weeks.

Just curious, with the normal flu, how many deaths are the average in a year? How many this year? I keep hearing different numbers.

Here's some useful information from the CDC. It looks like the ordinary flu kills about 40,000-50,000 people a year. The most recent data is from a couple of years ago. I guess it takes some time to gather the information:

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/index.html

Here's a useful like to up to date Coronavirus statistics :

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

Note that the first statistics you see on that website are worldwide totals. You have to scroll down to get running totals on the US.

My fear is now that the toilet paper manufacturers know all it takes is a flu epidemic to spark a run on their product, they'll be feeding stories to the media of the latest flu epidemic that might spread about 3-4 times every year.   Seriously people - toilet paper? It appears that our biggest problem isn't the spread of corona virus; it's the spread of stupidity. Obviously this is something to take precautions with (hand washing, limited contact with others, etc.), but hoarding toilet paper probably isn't going to help you or your family survive the apocalypse (or is that apoopolypse?)

From my reading and research I have seen is that at a very young age we usually are subjected to a form of the corona virus and our bodies develop an immunity response to it. A common cold is considered a type of corona virus. This is just a mutation of that virus that attacks the throat and could turn in to pneumonia if not treated. Drinking warm liquids forces the virus in to the stomach and the stomach acid destroys it in a matter of days. Also from what I have read there probably will not be a “cure” as there is no cure for a common cold. You can only treat the symptoms.

The geriatric population, especially if in nursing homes, usually spend most of the day in bed or their room. The body’s metabolism slows down and the attack response is not as strong as it is for a say healthy 10 to 30 year old with no underlying problems.

It will pass but it’s not going to be next week or anything that quick.
Just for the sake of people not operating on misinformation, the "warm liquids" thing is absolutely not true. That started going around after CVS Pharmacy legitimately mentioned it in an e-mail, but they later recanted and said they weren't sure how that landed in an official communication.

1.44% OF THOSE TESTED, not accurate death rate. I’ve read as many are asymptomatic as not or more. Nobody knows so percentages aren’t much use. A Princess Cruise ship is best data we have and they had a 1% rate among a large elderly contingent of passengers.

Undiscovered/undiagnosed deaths due to "healthy" doctor visits being postponed > corona virus deaths.

Its all silly IMO.

I wish the world would take the flu as seriously each year as this. The WHO (not the band) says that 300k to 650k die each year from the flu worldwide. Don't yet me wrong, Covid 19 is extremely serious and we should all be taking precautions to stay safe, but some of it is going overboard. The flu spreads just as fast, but you don't hear wall to wall coverage about it, nor does life get seriously altered because of it. The good news is that China hasn't had a new case in four days, or so they report. Anyway, keep clean people.

Note:I post these numbers because (1) I want to keep track of the "official" number of cases and deaths and (2) so that people will take this seriously.

I realize this isn't exact data and that the number of cases is likely much higher.

I post the ratio numbers as that is the easiest way to see how long these extraordinary measures are taking to be effective.

I didn’t want to make it seem like I thought you were posting those %s with an agenda bro, to be perfectly clear, just to point out you can’t really take anything meaningful away from percentages right now. The number tested isn’t changing linearly with those infected is my point. Thanks for the info and hope that clears that up.

I’ve got a question. When the number of cases are listed, does that number ever shrink when someone recovers from the virus?

Looking at similar numbers. The numbers don’t shrink when ppl recover. Currently I have these:

54,823 cases, 778 fatalities so far. 1.42% (Flu .1%)
