Post Season Options and Virus Discussion

Post by ERacerHead » Tue Mar 10, 2020 4:27 pm

Is the season over? Maybe. I view post season chances as follows.
NCAA- less than zero (although we stomped Belmont by 17 last year in the title game and they got in with a higher seed than we did)
NIT - Slightly greater than zero, but not by much. Archaic OVC tiebreaker formula did us in.
CBI - Pretty good IF the team wants to play and the AD wants to pay 50K to enter.
CIT- Excellent. Again IF the team wants it and the AD is willing to pay 30K.

I am hoping to play in the CBI. I don’t see a downside in getting this young team some post season experience. It worked for Loyola Marymount.

The only downside is the $50k entry fee. I agree, young team would benefit. Not sure how deep this team could go with games on the road.

I have seen projections that have the Racers in the CBI in the Texas A&M pod. TIFWIW

Thats interesting and the guy sure has a great record of predections...aahh except I dont know how we can check his prediction record so we'll see I guess.

Curious what the payoff is for these tournament participants as the $30000 or $50,000 buy in is not a cheap date. On the other hand ponying up the funds is such a great compliment to the guys on the team hope we do it!

It's NCAA (which won't happen) or NIT. The rest are a waste of resources and quite frankly below the program.

Why do you see our young squad getting post season experience against out of conference opponents as a waste of resources?

Not near the waste as playing Bresica like teams.

Playing Brescia is also a waste of time. And it's awfully expensive to gain a game or two of experience. It will also bring little recognition to the program. People barely recognize the NIT, much less the CIT, QVC or whatever other tournament is out there. Just my opinion. I want bigger and better. Tired of third rate. Save those tournaments for programs like APSU or UTM.

Definitely not a waste of resources. It’s fun for the fans and fun for the teams. Plus it will get the team much needed post season tourney experience. I’m curious as to who gets the gate money from attendance. If there is a $50,000 buy in then who gets the gate concession etc.

That CIT championship was great experience for that young 2014 team that went on to set records in 2015. It was also some of the most fun I’ve had as a Racer fan.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see the NIT/MSG cancelling as well.

Completely agree. Why are we going to such extremes with this pandemic compared to the last four or five?

This is beyond ridiculous. Thousands of people in this country die from the common flu every year and we are making this thing out to be the black plague.

This. The coronavirus isn't the problem. It is the media hype surrounding it.

I think the prevalence of social media compared to the last few viruses is the driving factor in the panic. I’m fairly certain that their are millions of hand wringers, on the edge of their seats, refreshing their feeds to get the latest on the virus.

What's the over/under on the big tournament being shut down as well? Don't think it can't happen.
