There will be only one OVC bid this year, to the NCAA. With the poor out of conference record, there will most likely not be an NIT bid either, unless the Number one seed in the OVC tournament loses. Co- champions do not receive an automatic bid, unless they are a number one seed in the conference tournament.

That being said, we are a long way from the tournament. The Racers just need to be concerned with their next game, and the tournaments will take care of themselves. The game on Thursday will be the toughest of the season.

We had two representatives last season for one simple reason: Rick Byrd. That’s why.

Without high profile wins and a spotless record in the OVC regular season there is no way most any true mid-major will ever get a bid. They are talking about multiple Power Conference getting double digit numbers of teams into the field this year. That leaves no room for teams like Murray or Peay.

The next two weeks will tell a lot and be one of the toughest challenges to this team. Can not let up over the next 3 games and AT EIU will be no cake walk. That team is Scrappy has a lot of fight in them.

Agreed on EIU possibly playing a pivotal role before it’s said and done. Top 3 all have a trip up there looming.

First things first - Belmont's up next and if we can win that one Belmont will all but be eliminated for double bye in the OVC tourney. I don't think they've ever played on Thursday night in the OVC tourney before, and I'd love for us to be the ones to make that happen for them.

Just out of curiosity... what is the record for consecutive conference wins? I think we are on a 18 or 19 game unbeaten streak now.

We’ve won 21 straight conference games with our last loss being January 31, 2019 at Jax State.

*edit: We have won 45 of the last 49 OVC games going back to the start of the season before last, ‘17-‘18. Crazy domination.

Yeah, but the ACC which often has the highest number of bids is only looking at about 4 this season. Louisville, Florida State, and Duke are their only mortal locks at the moment. the total number of P5 bids will roughly balance out. The Big 10 is going to get more than normal, but the ACC is way under its usual number.

I'm not saying we specifically get a second team in. I'm just saying the opportunity isn't much better or much worse than it typically is. We shouldn't get two unless we legitimately have two teams in the top 40-45. There are different metrics, but very often that isn't the case.

Question and a discussion just for fun.

Govs and Murray split regular season games, throw in a loss each from someone else in the conference, both schools meet in the OVC Final. Regardless who wins that final game, are both in the NCAA Tourney?
I think it would be hard to keep both of them out should it play out like that
Congrats to apsu for raising their game.

Yeah I'd would say no. Too many OOC losses that have turned out to not be good. Evansville, for example ,at the time wasn't a bad loss, but looking at it now is a stinker. That is the risk you run with a young team.

For the govs, losses to Vandy and UGA would hurt (the western loss REALLY hurts, even with Bassey healthy) , but what really hurts is no good wins.
I think if we played Vandy today instead of when we did, we're talking about a different result. The two games vs them and UGA we had the absolute worst shooting night(s). Especially UGA. But I agree, those two losses will hurt should we not get the automatic bid.

Let's be real though, both of our schools are going to have a tough time going 2-0 this week.

I think that’s true of the Racers as well, but this isn’t the first time that can be said of lots of teams.

I would be shocked if both teams went 2-0, and pretty surprised if either did.

I knew we were approaching 20 but didn’t know we had topped it already.

Just part of the NCAA tourney selection hypocrisy. If Murray or Peay have a bad loss in November, it's "SEE, SEE, they can't beat anybody." If a Power 5 has a bad loss in November it's, "But look what they've done lately!"

Belmont scares me. Having said that, it’s so weird to be 3 games up on them and we still don’t have sole possession of first in the OVC. I’m thoroughly impressed with Peay. Didn’t see them tearing through the conference like that. I’d rather see original OVC members fighting for the top spot instead of Belmont. I’m up for 3 games against Peay this year.
