This morning’s inevitable drop from not covering spread.

When you beat one of the worst teams in D1 you are not going to get much respect if you beat them by whatever. Doubt we would have dropped much more if we had lost. Weak ovc is one reason we should play strong ooc teams imo.

We do play strong ooc games. Or do you not remember the squeeker vs Tommy's Diesel College?

People complaining about the OOC in a down year are the same ones who would rend their garments and gnash their teeth had we gone 2-10 OOC
Americans dead by COVID-19 as of 5/5/2020 72,271.
Americans lost in Vietnam- 58,209
Korea- 38,616
All other American dead in every conflict since 1975 including 9/11 and Benghazi- 10,580

The Sagarin spread was 13.01 points [74.77 - (58.48 + 3.28)], however we “only” won by 12, so we dropped a couple spots. If you will look at Belmont, they won by basically their exact predicted Sagarin spread and stayed the same. Same with their opponent who lost by the predicted spread. How it works, you’re playing against the computer spread to determine whether you move up or down or stay the same.

I think Tech has lost 3 home games by 13, 1 home game by 11, 1 by 5 points. Lost to us by 12. Seems like we fell in line with every team to beat Tech in Cooksville.

Belmont actually covered the spread last night? I still say the math doesn’t add up for them being a top 100 team.

LOL. Winning is good, losing to a good team happens.

Serious question. How the hell does the OVC improve as a whole? Expansion is not the answer. Hell, I'd get the league down to eight teams if it were me. Since queen Beth isn't going to do that, what can be done? Seven...seven freaking schools ranked 250th or worse. And what exactly does the OVC commish do on a daily basis? Just curious.

The key is to have the bottom half improve their rankings. Hence the push for increased him games for conference teams. Home teams win more often, meaning that an increase in home games should increase the numbers of wins. Other would be able to do the math, but an increase of 50 spots each for the bottom five teams where all of them are above 300, that would have a large net positive for the league.

I should clarify, that’s the easiest and cheapest method to improve the league. If the bottom half of the league was ranked no lower than 175, the top teams, barring weird quirks of mathematics, should be around 40-75.

Agreed! The problem is that you have too many schools that don't care and the OVC brass that care even less. As long as Belmont and Murray keep feeding that tournament cash to the bottom feeders. :bang: How about cutting off tournament cash from member schools ranked outside a certain range? Is that possible or is it REQUIRED to share the wealth?

You would have to get a majority of the conference to vote for that...

Sagarin hasn’t updated yet since last night. We were 12 point favorites so we will drop a little. Looking at yesterday’s Sagarin I was struck by the fact that he considers our schedule to be next to easiest in the country at 352. Wow. Belmont/Head are right there with us.

Which rating does the NCAA use, the Sagarin or RPI or something else to determine seeding for the tournament?

Yes, the RPI is one of the official weighting factors for determining at-large teams and for seeding teams, but it is not the only one. Other factor$ mu$t be con$idered.

The NCAA uses the NET rankings in addition to other factor$ mu$t be con$idered.

I just use Sagarin because it’s tried and true and generally considered to be the crème de la crème if you will among rankings. I remember following our Sagarin ranking in the Murray Ledger in the 80s.
