I think that is a fair assessment of the team until we see them play somebody. We have several new pieces to work into the rotation early in the season. I like the talent we have brought in, but we are replacing a generational talent in Ja. Granted Brown and Cowart are pretty special players in their own right. By the end of the season I still think we have a great chance to punch our ticket in Evansville. Go RACERS!

Agree that this is a good assessment. To me this season is all about getting this team to be playing their best in time for the OVC tourney. A lot to be excited about here, but there will for sure be ups and downs. We are in a GREAT place as a program though when we can lose players like Ja and Shaq, and have the expectation of being a factor come OVC tournament time the next season. I think this shows where the program is right now compared to years past, we now have sustainability regardless of if we lose a superstar player or not. I'm really excited about the potential of our Sophs and Freshman (plus what this next recruiting class could end up looking like  ) to create another all time great team in a couple years. But holy crap how exciting is it to be able to be so excited about now and the future a year after losing the best player in program history after his sophomore season. Special times right now guys, I am trying to not forget that and soak it all in.

So I take that Belmont will be ranked ahead of us. I did not see Jacksonville State and can only assume they did not make the Top 144. I think Belmont will feel a big hit also and new coach but still considered ahead of us. Maybe JSU is ahead of us since we have to travel to their place 2 years in a Row.

Think about this - each of the last TWO seasons we've lost 2 first team All OVC players (both times including the league MVP). We tied for first last season and won the OVC tourney, and I'll be surprised if we are any lower than second place this year. That's a pretty strong statement. If our young PG's progress quickly we should once again battle Belmont for the OVC title. I want to see the Racers complete the Evansville OVC trifecta next March!

The Bahamas is a very small sample size but I'm encouraged by our guard play and our proficiency in scoring.

I think guard play will not be a problem come conference time (barring injuries.)

I’m going to hold off til October before I judge this team. The team that ended up with a losing record was also at one time the “deepest” team ever too. But we are definitely off to a good start.

The last couple or three comments were definitely joking and making light of the last “deepest” team.

I figured if I didn't throw that out there somebody else would. At least the board has come alive again.

Wonder if we get picked 4th in OVC by someone this year. Belmont can be the preseason #1 every year, as long as we beat them in Evansville. Bout time we beat them in Nashville as well.

It will all come down to the defense, and we won't kow about that until the third game of the season when they face tough competition. They have proved they can play offense and score, but the loss of Shaq (defenseve player of the year in the OVC) will be realized if this team plays defense like the 16-17 team did. They have good offense and can score a lot, but it is tough to win championships with a team that does not get after it on the defnsive end.

I fully expect Tevin Brown to be our number 1 lockdown defender but who knows what new cream will rise?
