Still young

Post by RockinRacers » Fri Feb 08, 2019 6:41 pm

Tevin Brown just played his 22nd DI game. KJ Williams just notched the 12th start of his career. Ja Morant is, believe it or not, just a sophomore. Darnell Cowart just earned his 2nd start after two years in JUCO.

This Racer starting five is young. And growing.

Yeah man we’re set up for this to be the prep season and next year to be the one but who recruits for an early draftee at our level lmao? Just think of how bad Cam and now Ja has/will hurt us :bang: :bang: :bang: :bang: Matt has and if he stays, will, pay the piper for our recruiting success at the PG position.

We are very young, but so is Belmont. Wish we had that big frosh they have.

I like cowart, Williams and the big stud from Alabama that will be a freshman next year. Throw in Anthony smith returning as well.

Yes, I like our returning bigs too, but I would take Belmont's big guy over any of them. Same for Mayo. If we had a guy like either of them, we would be darned hard to beat. Gotta take off the rose-colored glasses for a comparison like that.

Comparing Mayo to a freshman and a senior in high school is a bit much. Mayo is a great player though.

In relation to Belmont’s big guy, I was also impressed with him. However, the point being made is in regard to potential. KJ has a world of upside. From what I read, Robinson does, too. Cowart continues to blossom, as well.

I like our big guys. I really do. Our prospects in the middle for next year are better than they have been for a long time. Belmont's big guy is not only better than ours right now. I predict he will stay better. When you are that big and shoot with either hand, that's something that OVC opponents are just not equipped to stop. Mayo was the same was as a freshman. He was really good, and he's kept getting better. I'm not even going to pretend that we have a player like either of them.

It just seems that are bigs never get much better than their first year here.

He has skills, for sure, but we played him wrong by fronting him. He is tall and lanky and they lobbed right over us.

Just like every other Belmont player they are looking for or running the back cut.

The offensive system that Belmont runs makes that guy look better than he really is. Not a knock on him because he's the perfect fit for their system. He's no Mayo though, that's for sure.

How many big lanky forwards has Belmont had that put up gawdy numbers with most of their looks being wide open layups?

Harley Nussman would probably score 20 a game on 65% shooting in that offense.

Because we don't have anyone on staff to properly develop them. I mean look what's happened to Sanchious in his time here, he never developed an offense at all except for dunks. If our bigs don't come into the program already with post skills then they won't learn them here and that is poor coaching and development.

We can sure get them into shape but that's about it.

Anthony Smith has gotten better by leaps and bounds since he's been here, has he not?

Seems to me that Cowart has improved by leaps and bounds since he's been here. Anthony Smith has made large improvements. I wonder what good samaritan stepped in to work with them?

Though Brion's offense is on the down side, his defense on the inside has gotten better every year. He's been down a few games this year, but without him last year we do not win the OVC.

Anthony was committing 4 fouls last year in 10 minutes. He had improved his foot work tremendously this year and gotten quicker. I think Davis will do the same this off-season.

Cowart has dropped 30 pounds and is a totally different player than his first step on campus.

Our bigs are fine.

I don’t think RR meant any harm but probably should have just posted Ed’s tweet.
