Attendance perspective

Post by JoeD » Wed Jan 30, 2019 4:07 pm

The Belmont game saw 8,969 fans showed up to cheer on the Racers. That is the largest crowd in Murray State history, but how many is that anyway?

8,969 is more than the capacity of the following schools' arenas

Florida Atlantic, CUSA
Florida International, CUSA
Louisiana Tech, CUSA
Old Dominion, CUSA
Rice, CUSA
Southern Miss, CUSA
UT San Antonio, CUSA
western, CUSA
Drake, MVC
Loyola (Il) MVC
SIU, MVC
Valpo, MVC
Air Force, MWC
Colorado State, MWC
San Jose State, MWC
Davidson, A10
Duquesne, A10
Fordham, A10
George Washington, A10
LaSalle, A10
Rhode Island, A10
Richmond, A10
St. Bonaventure, A10
VCU, A10
East Carolina, AAC
Houston, AAC
SMU, AAC
Tulane, AAC
Tulsa, AAC
Boston College, ACC
Ga Tech, ACC
Miami (Fl) ACC
Stanford, PAC12
TCU, Big XII
Villanova, Big East
Northwestern, Big 10
Rutgers, Big 10

That means that even if they sold out a game at their arena, it wouldn't surpass the attendance of the Murray State Racer's best attendance this season.

Pretty damn impressive for a school like ours.

It surprises me that the ACC has facilities that small. But then again, Cameron Indoor for Duke isn't that large either, is it? 9k or so?

I'm curious if The Bank went to all chair seating, what the new capacity would be? First correct answer wins a free two liter and a coupon good for one free bowl of chili at the next UTM home game.

While we're doing what-if's, what if they figured out a way to eliminate the empty corners in the lower bowl? What it would cost to design and install it would surely be paid for in the extra seats' ticket sales.

Chair seats lower bowl fully enclosed with two tunnels and bleachers as is up top would be perfect.

That's gotta be a cool million bucks by itself. Every lower level seat would have to be removed, scraped and all new added. Honestly, that would look awesome reconfigured, with all chairs. I'm fine keeping the upper level bleachers as a cost saving measure. If I win powerball, I'll donate the cash for the project. Outside of the boat show and lawn/garden show, what other events do they have that push back the lower bowl seating? A concert here and there? If the power bowl alone was renovated, that would push capacity to or over 9k.

This summer new LED lights are being installed which will allow us to turn lights off for starting lineups next season.

I'm thinking there's got to be a way to fix the weird seating layout without having to redo the whole place. The way they come down/meet in the corners on the press row side of the floor is kind of weird, but whatever. It's not terrible. I'm just thinking there's got to be a way to put seats in the two huge empty spots that look terrible on TV. I think the more seats/people we can get in the lower bowl the better.

I'll be happy with the lights, but the sound system needs to be replaced too. It's being held together with tape and kite string.

The redesign for the lower seating isn't hard, b
ut it will be a couple mil and after a name change to the arena probably.
That being said they will pretty much HAVE to replace them in a few years time or they won't be able to host the boat show anymore, and we all know how important THAT is!

Is there any way we can get rid of those 1980's billboard ads on the walls? I mean we have video boards now. Put them up there or something.

It would be next to impossible to reorganize the bottom bowl since it is designed as a multi purpose facility.

Something like this is what I'm talking about. Even the corners are retractable, so the boat show and any yard sale they want to have would be safe.

Just hold all those junk sales and shows over at the fooball stadium in warm weather, get a little extra use out of that place. Might gain a tournament game of some sort someday

About 20-30 Grand more and you could add a spectacular Laser show to the mix!

THIS would land recruits, IMO!!!

Warning!.....Just realized some of the songs on this video are not appropriate for kids!
