No other school in the country can boast 4 point guards the level of those guys over the past decade.

I heard through a former AD employee who shall remain nameless approximately what football costs the university. I was told the budget is only around $850K and that includes salaries for coaches. The NCAA gives us $100K I believe just for playing D1. So that’s $750K it costs the university before $$ games are played. Joe is correct, the stadium costs aren’t charged to the football budget, it’s part of grounds. This info came from a person who 100% would know.
One game at $550k takes that number down to $200k in cost. A second game anywhere near that price puts the program into the black.
How much cost is incurred funding programs and scholarships for women's programs that exist because of the imbalance of scholarships that football causes? I'm thinking several million.

What if we played all ooc football games as money games? I mean, there hasn't been overwhelming interest in the program in a long time anyway, so why not fill the coffers with cash? I know it won't happen, but just pondering the what if factor.

Hard to quantify because we are near the minimum for maintaining our status with the OVC and the NCAA. (We have to offer so many sports.)

So really, there isn’t much difference if we didn’t have football.

My understanding is that it’s capped. Some years it’s three, but most years it’s two

Ja (and the Racers) just got a good mention during the UT-Vandy broadcast. Ravech brought it up while he was discussing amazing athletes with Mookie Betts.

Always a lot of fun getting this much national coverage.

Until an unbiased accounting is made public, I'm going to maintain my position that football loses large sums of money for the university, the same university "maintaining the stadium."

Thanks Thai!

I've been visiting that site every couple of days looking for their analysis.

They are one of the most in-depth sites I've encountered in evaluating talent.

One thing I'd like to point out is that Ja didn't get a ton of playing time last year and when he did, his job was to find others.

This year we had 8 new players AND one of our most experienced players is out for the season.

The fact that Ja Morant's usage rating is so high, teams are throwing the kitchen sink at him defensively and he's had to develop a synergy with 8 new players, it's amazing that he's almost averaging a triple-double.

At his age, it's unreasonable for them to talk about his "conditioning" and his core strength especially since he's playing 38 minutes a game and often being double and triple teamed.

When a player his age is responsible for 60+ points in one game, he deserves to be in the national discussion for Player of the Year.

Can Zion Williamson say he's responsible for 70+% of his team's offense?

Always appreciate your work and dedication Thai!

That’s fair. But I will ask this. If football was shutdown, who would pay to maintain the stadium?

The university is paying for all of it. That's the point. Football (IMO) does not cover expenses with revenues they produce. If you buy a lemon car that breaks down 1,000 miles from home and you decide to end your ownership, you still have to cover the cost of the tow. You keep paying for your mistake even after the car is done.

If a program brings in more than it costs, it’s profitable. Especially if you have to have a set number of scholarship sports. Men’s tennis won’t bring in $300k per year in profit and you can’t tear down the stadium to save money.
