I'm too lazy to look it up now but I think it's 3 seasons in the NBA gets you around $65k/year pension at age 62(ish) and each additional year adds to it. Congrats Sip!

Of course it's better than none at all. Doesn't change the fact they got him on the cheap for the NBA.

This could work out well for Sip. I mean his college coach has a direct line to his NBA coach. Coincidence, don't think so. Yes it sucks he didn't get this crazy free agent money getting thrown away but looks like a much better spot for him. There's plenty wrose things people would do for 2.2 million I'd love that offer.

It has been awhile since I looked, but Marshall is right. Three years vested and $56,988 beginning at 62, increasing until year 11, where it caps at $195,000. There is also a 401K, sponsored by the league, which matches contributions at 140%. I don't know where the max is capped, and I assume there is one, as well as a limit by the government. That would mean if a player sat aside $10,000 in his 401 each year, the league would contribute $14,000, making the non-taxable until withdrawn contribution, $24,000. I hope Sip, and Cam are taking advantage of that.

I don't pretend to know or understand hardly any details to the specifics of professional sports' contracts, but I did hear somewhere that had Sip played in the NBA just a few more days (I guess his days in the D League hurt him), he would have fell into the Veteran status and would have required a Veterans' Minimum contract which would have been significantly more than he'll be making now. While that at the surface seems bad, you should also remember, it also made him much more of a bargain which increased his likely hood of being signed again. The Bulls biggest weakness is the lack
of three point shooting, which we'll allow Canaan an opportunity to prove his worth. Best of luck to Sip.

Sip is a pure shooter, hard worker, fierce competitor and all around good person with the heart of a champion. If given any kind decent opportunity, he will shine.

Being traded to the 76ers was a good/bad proposition.

The good. He got to start and play regularly, showing some of the skills that made him so entertaining while in the Blue and Gold.

The bad is that he was surrounded by marginal NBA talent, meaning that passes he made that should have been assists weren't. That means that he forced some shots in an attempt to carry his team, meaning his shooting percentage is lower than it could have been had he been more selfish about his own stats.

Tick,

I read somewhere that 'Sip was 2 starts and either 34 or 37 playing minutes away from being considered a starter. I think I read that would bump him up to 5.1 Mil/yr.

The Philly fans didn't seem to be too keen on him as a PG, but that's not where he excels anyway.

Given the right team, teammates and playing time, 'Sip could put up near 30 a night IMO.

It will be fun to see how things shake out for both 'Sip and Payne this season!

I'm not sure about that. It's my understanding that what kept him from receiving a bigger payday is whether he is considered a veteran or not. Regardless, I'm just glad he'll have another opportunity to prove his worth in the NBA. Since Sip's signing, I've read several things about Canaan on the net, most aren't flattering. However, the last couple I read were what I consider much more accurate account of his abilities, and point out that with the lowly Sixers, he attempted to do things outside of his comfort zone in an attempt to help out his team. I believe he'll have the opportunity to play to his strengths with the Bulls, as long as he can beat out Jerian Grant for the backup point guard position.

As for Payne, he had a great Summer League in Orlando, making first team, and if you listen to the announcers, the unofficial most valuable player. I didn't think he shot the ball as well as I expected him to (low 40%), he did seem to be in control of the game and appeared much more athletic than I expected. A local newspaper writer was interviewed after his last Summer League game, and he says he expects Payne to play at least 20 minutes a game next year, and if Westbrook is traded, depending on who they get back, he would most likely be starting. Considering he could be entering his Senior year in college, I think he's well on his way to great things in the NBA.

I'm going to say this as a fan of basketball and not as a Murray State fan. Canaan needs to improve on his mid range jumpers if he ever expects to see the floor. He was only a handful of guards last season that had a lower 2 point % than 3 point %. He is not the quickest guy and rarely beats a defender unless he is on a break away. He does not have the size to be an off guard and does not the ball handling skills or quickness to be a true pg. I love the guy and love that he was here for 4 years but to me he would be a very good 6th man and with the ages of the guards on the Bulls he could play quite a bit due to fatigue or injury.

According to Michael Grant, Canaan is currently top 5 in efficiency in the league.

Notice, if you will, that he has a True Shooting Percentage of 77%.
