Im old enough to remember when being "politically correct" was understood to mean "not being a complete, racist, xenophobic a-hole". Good times...

The MSU release conveniently omits that Watson's ERA was north of 9.00 as a Racer. Just goes to show that big league organizations will give a shot to a big arm. Good luck to him.

As a reliever in a home run happy conference with a big arm, a big ERA is to be expected.

Well, whoever wrote the release didn't think so or it wouldn't have been left out. And he wasnt exactly a go- to reliever. Moulder had more confidence in other guys and rightly so. Again, just facts, look at the numbers.

That doesn't mean he can't be a late bloomer and eventually have a fine pro career. But let's not pretend that he was an effective college pitcher.

My pet peeve is with news releases that leave out the negative. Don't insult your audience.

Don't get me wrong, by all accounts he's a great kid and did his best. He just needs some adjustments that maybe a major league organization can provide. I'll be pulling for him.

I'm just annoyed by PR spin in general, that's all.

I know. I'm saying the PR wasn't the best in this case. No need to leave out the obvious, you lose credibility that way. Jmho

All media has lost their credibility in today's world.

If you don't like when people call you out when you say dumb shit, maybe you should just stop saying dumb shit.

By what definition? Either of you, what are you defining as "media" and "media site"?

We all know the site promotes Murray State athletics through mass communication mostly via the internet. If that ain't the very definition of media, then Oxford and the rest obviously have it all wrong lmao.

TBH, I just tire of the resident know it all egghead's incessant correcting and debating every move that is negative toward the athletic department -- have been to be honest and I'm not alone -- under the guise of "calling out BS" when truthfully there isn't a bigger FOS poster around and I just felt like saying so that particular day.

First off, anything PR puts out is a form of media.
Anything that Promotion and Advertising outputs are forms of media.

The very modern definition of 'media' in this sense (and that includes news media) comes from advertising.

Second, media in any form should never be given any outright credibility. One should never blindly accept anything fully credible.

I'm not saying this as some sort of, don't trust anyone, everyone is out to get you paranoia, just don't live your life with your head in the sand. So kudos to you for doing your part in questioning the information presented to you as incomplete and digging deeper in order to gain a greater personal understanding of the whole story.

Of course the PR media from the university's athletic promotions website only points out the positives, it's their job!

Point taken. PR was my major at Murray State and I remember being taught that your job was not to just to promote the positive. As I recall, we had a course in crisis management which taught us that sometimes you have to reveal the good and the bad. Though I doubt a pitcher with a 9.00+ ERA was what we had in mind!

Seriously, the bigger problem is with media outlets who these days print, verbatim, what the PR organizations send out. Laziness, cutbacks, whatever, but fact-checking in the mass media is becoming as extinct as the dodo bird.
